Plasma 6.4 is out and it's' more welcoming than ever!

https://kde.org/announcements/plasma/6/6.4.0/

Check out the tweaked tiling that lets you have different layouts for every virtual desktop; the overhauled Spectacle that makes capturing your desktop faster; how KRunner now understands color; and in general the literally dozens of other fixes and features that make Plasma friendlier and easier to use.

@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social Once @archlinux @archlinux gets Plasma 6.4, I'm updating! (I already have most of the changes via the KDE Frameworks updates, but) Plasma 6.4 looks REALLY GOOD! Well done to the KDE team!

KDE is part of the #EndOf10 campaign and we are on a mission to convert as many users over to Linux as we can.

This is the perfect time to ditch Windows and get the new and shiny Plasma 6.4 for your machine!

Check out the upcoming events where you can get Linux installed on your computer:

@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social It'd better if there weren't other remote connection solutions. Just the word "cloud" is enough.

@kde The one thing I miss most in KDE is the ability to do the desktop zoom with mouse gesture, such as holding down middle mouse button and moving the mouse up to zoom in at the mouse position and holding the same button and moving the mouse down to end zooming.

I set the zoom functionality to <meta>+<num +> and end zoom to <meta>+<num 0>, but it is much more convenient to be able to do it with the mouse as the zooming is expected to happen where the mouse cursor is anyway, so to do it without the Logitech-style gesture the user must move their hand to the keyboard to begin zooming and then point the cursor to the desired area or vice versa, but if it's mouse-(de)activatable the superfluous hand movement is eliminated.

Being visually impaired I must use desktop zoom very many times daily and it does become tedious to have to keep switching hand placement just to zoom, again and again.
This https://github.com/PixlOne/logiops project should have such a capability as part of it, but Logitech-specific and it would be easier to configure in same place as the <meta>+<num +> etc are now, except click the button to activate macro-recording, then click desired button and desired gesture.

It is the one thing keeping my visual impairment tied to Windows 10 before I can go back home to Linux again.

Thank you!

Finally, Spectacle has all the features that I have missed from ShareX during my Windows days. Much love to the developers, you are the best!
Spectacle is absolutely the best snipping tool I’ve ever used. I love it.
@kde I'm looking forward to seeing Plasma 6.4 in the Arch repos and updating to it.
@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social It looks fantastic. I look forward to my distro updating. Thanks

@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social

Thank you guys for the great work!

@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social Very nice, but may I suggest redoing the example video for "Window Management". There is an pretty glaring glitch at second six where the Firefox window starts overlapping the LibreOffice window.

how KRunner now understands color

Smh. I don’t want my KRunner to see color.

@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social One feature which made me switch to KDE is the password dialog which describe *what* exactly asks for the password.

Not perfect but better than other DEs.

Nothing but love for the KDE team! I moved to KDE during roughly Plasma 5.1 days. (Always wanted to love Plasma 4, but just… it was Plasma 4)

Not once have I regretted it, and Plasma has been on every computer in my house since then.

❤️❤️❤️ to the KDE team!

@octopus_ink @kde At least KDE 4 looked good. Oxygen is one of my favorite desktop themes ever!
@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social So... I can finally get rid of those fugly sound indicators again - hopefully. If so: Thank you!
Been a KDE fan since the late 90s! Keep up the good work, y’all!
Thanks to kde and steam proton I switched to Linux a year ago and haven’t touched windows since.

Thanks for making the default lock screen slightly less pink! ❤️
It’s gorgeous! Today I upgraded to Fedora 42 with Plasma 6.4 and it runs smoother than ever
@kde @kde@lemmy.kde.social love the new release. Any idea why I am missing the wallpaper settings for the time of day? I am using Garuda Linux.
That’s really great to hear. KDE just keeps impressing me. Plasma 6.4 feels so much smoother and genuinely more inviting — it’s like your desktop actually wants you to enjoy using it. Big respect to the developers for putting so much care into the experience.
