Elon Musk thread 🧵, part 4.

In which Elon leaves government (as if) and goes back to sleeping on his factory floor because that's all he's good for.

Also, In which employees are annoyed Musk is back to the job site and disrupting their work.

Elon has used this tired "I'm sleeping on the floor" nonsense forever. It's just silly propaganda. In fact we all know he plays video games all night.

Here's Vanity Fair on Musk's sleeping on the floor and his other ridiculous behavior:

He really is in the DOGEhouse, huh?

How anybody thinks this man has two brain cells to rub together is beyond me. He's a con man that's it.

Donald Trump says Elon Musk has ‘lost his mind’ and dismisses peace offering

Trump says he is ‘not particularly’ interested in reconciling with Musk, who reportedly wanted to speak to president

The Guardian

"Elon showed up to a press conference with Trump on Friday with a black eye, claiming that this was due to his son "punching him in the face" because he told him to."

I don't even know what's going on any more.

The WSJ reported last October that Musk had been in regular contact with Russian President Vladimir Putin since late 2022 and also that his contacts with foreign nationals led SpaceX lawyers to advise him against seeking a higher security clearance over fears that he might have to explain the relationships or have his clearance revoked entirely.

A joint DHS and DOJ probe found that Elon Musk met with foreign nationals frequently between 2022 and 2023 as insiders also said he met with them during the 2024 election

Elon's own "maximally truth seeking" AI thinks Elon is the person most deserving of a desth sentence. 🤷

I got nothing. This show is crazy.

So what foreign workers does Elon have driving his fake "self-driving" robo taxi con act?

Has there been a story? Are they being driven by remote? Because he doesn't have full self-driving worth a damn.

Looks like Tesla's Robotaxis hit the road (only a few of them) and already there's video of it losing its mind and crossing double yellow lines.

‘The vehicle suddenly accelerated with our baby in it’: the terrifying truth about why Tesla’s cars keep crashing

Elon Musk is obsessive about the design of his supercars, right down to the disappearing door handles. But a series of shocking incidents – from drivers trapped in burning vehicles to dramatic stops on the highway – have led to questions about the safety of the brand. Why won’t Tesla give any answers?

The Guardian

"Tesla released a statement to the press saying the company was “deeply saddened” by the incident, adding, “We are working to gather all the facts in this case and are fully cooperating with local authorities.”

To this day, Meier still doesn’t know why her husband died."

Doesn't sound like full co-operation to me.

Tesla lies and hides everything.

"Some escaped with a scare; others ended up in ditches, crashing into walls or colliding with oncoming vehicles. “After dropping my son off in his school parking lot, as I go to make a right-hand exit it lurches forward suddenly,” one complaint read. Another said, “My autopilot failed/malfunctioned this morning (car didn’t brake) and I almost rear-ended somebody at 65mph.” A third reported, “Today, while my wife was driving with our baby in the car, it suddenly accelerated out of nowhere.” "
"Braking for no reason caused just as much distress. “Our car just stopped on the highway. That was terrifying,” a Tesla driver wrote. Another complained, “Frequent phantom braking on two-lane highways. Makes the autopilot almost unusable.” Some report their car “jumped lanes unexpectedly”, causing them to hit a concrete barrier, or veered into oncoming traffic."

So if Tesla hits a market cap of 8 trillion dollars, Elon Musk will receive a pay package that will make him worth a trillion dollars.

If anyone is still oblivious that this is a con, nothing will save them. 😄

If this guy could be a bigger dirt bag, I don't know how.

Where's moral hazard when Elon Musk (con man and idiot) gets himself voted a one trillion dollar pay package.

Oh and racist. I forgot the racism.

So the man who showed up to the White House with a black eye and claimed that he asked his son to punch him in the face is now going to manufacture computer chips. 🤡

"Elon Musk has announced the Terafab project, a joint venture between Tesla, SpaceX and xAI, to build the "largest chip manufacturing facility ever." In his usual grandiose fashion, Musk claims Terafab is the next step towards harnessing the power of the sun and creating a "galactic civilization."

Is anyone even listening to this racist nutter any more?

You couldn't pay me to take one of his cars.

Tesla makes large profits in the United States. It then pays huge costs to a partnership domiciled in the Netherlands which isn't real. So Tesla pays zero United States tax.

It also pays little tax in the Netherlands, too. Tax data is confidential there, so we won't know how that works.

...

...

However, note that even if Tesla had to pay taxes in the United States on this $18 billion of profits it would have paid $400 million of taxes. (Ref https://economictimes.com/news/international/business/elon-musk-scorned-shady-loopholes-yet-offshore-tax-tricks-likely-saved-tesla-hundreds-of-millions/articleshow/130389082.cms. By the way, I have no idea how it would be such a small number!)

If an individual made $18 billion of income they would have to pay roughly half of it - $9 billion - as taxes.

So there's something else gravely wrong with this situation.

Elon Musk scorned shady loopholes, yet offshore tax tricks likely saved Tesla hundreds of millions

Tesla has reportedly saved over 400 million dollars on US taxes. This was achieved through a financial maneuver involving its units in the Netherlands and Singapore. These units posted 18 billion dollars in profits that were not taxed in those countries. This practice allowed Tesla to reduce its tax bill in the United States.

Economic Times

Finally, all these tax shenanigans are just straight up making Elon Musk rich. That's it. It's just more con man bullshit because all of these savings pump the stock price which goes straight in his pocket for the most part.

He's just a boy-faced con man. And a racist Nazi of course.

And at the same time that Tesla makes record profits by not paying any taxes, it also makes absolutely trash automobiles.

It's Official: the Cybertruck is More Explosive than the Ford Pinto - FuelArc News

We now have a full year of data for the Cybertruck, and a strange preponderance of headlines about Cybertrucks exploding into flames, including several fatalities. Unsurprisingly Uber does the same thing and avoids taxes using dozens of shell companies.

Any rational actor would take full advantage of these tax loopholes, unfortunately.

@jmcrookston

the rich live in parallel universes to our own. the biggest one is finance and applicable tax law. a good rule to remember is - anytime you find out about some weird niche tax law exists? that's because it only applies to rich people and its written to make sure they don't have to pay

@coolcalmcollected

And they have the money to delay fixing any of the loopholes by lobbying, which they do, or also sometimes simply by fighting the tax authorities. Tax authorities will go after regular people because they can't fight back. Seen the huge consulting firms get away with all kinds of things because they can threaten to go to trial. The government then has to consider budget issues. Regular people can't threaten to go to trial.

@coolcalmcollected

Tax discrepancies across jurisdictions are a big problem. Ireland created one with its low tax rate and it boosted their economy at the expense of a lot of tax revenue to many other countries. People didn't seem to have a problem with it. They lauded Ireland without really understanding what was going on.

@jmcrookston

the one that still gets me wound up are the tax laws concerning large stadium projects write offs using a law to encourage small business' in low income areas

@jmcrookston

John Kenneth Galbraith pointed out that boards of trustees tend to be the CEO's friends, and they all trade favors, to the point where a CEO's pay is not so much market rates as "a warm personal gesture from the individual to himself".

Running endless "fundraising rounds" and then funnelling almost all those funds to himself makes Tesla look like straight-up stock fraud.

@jmcrookston sounds like the autopilot might not work too well
@jmcrookston This should not be legal with how inaacurate all AI is currently. Like a self piloting 1 ton bullet.

@jmcrookston India, iirc. And there's the one in the passenger seat. Two drivers and a computer "driver", all ready to blame one another for less than 5 bucks a ride.

This is going to fail super hard. It was a grift for a trillion dollars that he can close and file bankruptcy about.

@Crow He's a con artist so I agree with you.
