➡️ Running a backup is like making a photocopy.

➡️ Restoring from a backup is like making a photocopy of a photocopy that's been through a paper shredder, then trying to reassemble the original document.

➡️ Disaster recovery? You're making a photocopy of the shredder, then realizing the power is out and the paper factory just exploded.

@nixCraft Disaster recovery is more like:
Your photocopier is out of ink and out of paper, and the shop is closed for the week-end. And the information on the copies is three months old anyway.
@nixCraft Learnt that with Bootit Bare Metal on my home P.C. once, w/DOS. Rellies HD on the way out, made image then sent over network to next room P.C. Didn't bother validating image, only to find corrupted when drive finally died. So no family photos. Threw HD in drawer and about a year later someone gave me a P.C. the same vintage as the failed 2.5 HD. On a whim plugged faulty drive and viola, sprung to life again. Being able to read but no longer able to write on any longer.
@tatko @nixCraft Spinning HD are the worst, lost many data with those shit. SSD are are more silent killer, forget to plug it once a while (preferably at least 1 a year), and the data disappear 😆
@nixCraft That's why you use Nix and host your flakes on GitHub.
@nixCraft SO backup are bad, that what ure implying?
@nixCraft I think you smoked the crack today and need to drop the pipe sir.
@nixCraft That's why full system backups are so convenient
