How to Lock iPhone Screen & Disable Face ID in a Pinch

While Face ID is arguably the most secure way to protect your device, if you’re ever in a situation where someone might compel you to unlock your phone with Face ID, there’s a convenient shortcut to disable biometrics. Let’s go over how to lock your iPhone screen and quickly turn off Face ID.

@troi @heidilifeldman Turning off biometrics means you’ll need to type your pin anytime you want to get into your phone and you could easily reveal your pin to a camera or other observer..
@applewise @heidilifeldman true but you can only do so much for people. I know that if I don’t turn them off and things go sideways the jackbooted ones can just wave my phone in front of my face.

@troi @heidilifeldman In daily life though it’s far safer to use FaceID than not.

You can set up a ‘Siri unlock’ shortcut that shuts down the iPhone.

Make sure to turn off ‘unlock with mask’ so they can’t cover your mouth and you can speak the magic words.

You can even add a step that sends a preformatted message with current location to multiple friends in the event that you’re forced to use this.

@troi @heidilifeldman It’s true, if they’re fast enough, that they can interrupt this, but at least the message goes out.
