I'm back at my sewing nonsense and making a wide-leg pair of Closet Core Mitchells.

I almost always cut fabric on the fold, because I find cutting on flat tedious, and also don't have that kind of space. Mitchells however have two pattern pieces for facing that are "cut one" so are supposed to be cut flat. Ugh! 😩

I'm here to report that they are the same curve, and piece F fits into G! You can cut G on fold, and then trim one of the G pieces to F size. Much less hassle!

Both of these are supposed to be cut wrong side up, so I thought this trick was limited to just fabrics with same wrong/right quality. But no. It also works on the flipside.

I also want to give extra shout-out to Closet Core to say that all of their pant patterns I bought (3) have the front and back leg pattern pieces sensibly separated, so you can assemble each leg piece individually and reduce trimming when printing A4 at home. It doesn't use more paper, but shows they really understand the challenges of a home sewist.

(especially for a home sewist like me, with very limited flat space)

Terrific UX, 10/10

I'm aiming to have all of this cut out tonight, but there's a lot of little pieces, and I need to take breaks for my lower back.

I'm definitely not gonna transfer pattern markings tonight. Of which there is also great many. 😩

Another piece of advice on this pattern!

If you're using lightweight fabric, you can use your fashion fabric for your pockets instead of lining fabric.

In this case you don't need either the front nor the back pocket facings! Three fewer little bits to cut out and sew.

These are pieces K, L, and N.

I have completed the main fabric cutting! Yay!

Marking and interfacing are for another day.

Because my Kimmy project is on hold, I'm back onto the Mitchells. Both projects are in black, so all I did is change a needle; thread in the machine and serger staying put. Winner winner.

It starts off with a pretty complicated way of making waist ties, and was not in the mood for it. My fabric is thin, so I just turned them out as normal and guess what: they're perfectly fine.

(I'd probably follow these instructions if I was making them in something like a twill or denim)

Mitchells have some of the best front pockets I have ever experienced. Unfortunately there's an error; the bottom pocket lining pattern piece (I) is missing two notches in sizes 0-20.

They're intended to make it easier to line up top pocket lining, so if that's the case with your pattern just copy those two notches from that piece (J).

But it's all worth it. I mean, look at this pocket.

I'm did the welt pockets this afternoon.

The thing about welt pockets is that I love having them, and they're rewarding when you're done, but there is absolutely nothing about the process itself that is nice. They demand absolute attention and precision and they're therefore exhausting.

I've gotten good at making them but alas not any faster, so they took forever.

My only advice here is to use the zipper foot for securing the "triangles". Gets much closer to the seam.

Me, two days ago: "Ah yes. The topstitching guide for the fly. I better put it in a safe place."

Me today: (proceeds to waste 15 mins checking all the safe places)

The front fly is now also finished, and I already did the waist facing "in the meantime" so I'm now dangerously close to finishing the project.

Place your bets

You will totally finish today!

Lords, Ladies, and Jesters of the court: we are hemming. I repeat: we are hemming.

The hemming is happening.

#sewing #ClosetCore

I don't know what well-adjusted people are doing on this Friday night but I'm pretty sure none of them are hand-hemming their pants.

(At least I'm having a tasty beer while at it, right?)

#sewing #ClosetCore

The pants! They are completed! πŸ₯Ή

All the last bits of hand-stitching are done.

It's almost 2am. I'm incorrigible.

It's way too late for photos, but I tried them on and @spookius used the words "wow" and "sensational" so they must be good!

#sewing #ClosetCore

@jjcelery look, the hem is just not happening. Everything else, sure, but the hem? No
@triploidtree I'm having similar suspicions πŸ€”
@jjcelery it's not you, it's hems
@triploidtree and these are wide pants! plenty of hem to hate here 😀
