Senator Padilla had questioned whether the hundreds of people that #ICE had arrested in LA had any criminal history (besides the ‘half dozen’ or so that Kristi Noem, #DHS Secretary, was showcasing in the presser).
Then Senator Padilla was aggressively pushed out of the room and into the hallway by federal agents, who then pushed him face first onto the ground & handcuffed him.

Senator Padilla said he went to Noem’s press briefing peacefully. Almost immediately after he started asking a question, he was forcefully removed from the room, forced to the ground, & handcuffed.
His voice cracking with emotion, Senator #Padilla said~ “If this is how this administration responds to a senator with a question… you can only imagine what they’re doing to farmworkers, to cooks, day laborers throughout the Los Angeles community, California and the country.”

Interestingly, Senator Padilla did not mention that Kristi Noem, the DHS secretary, met with him for 15 minutes after the incident like DHS claimed in a social media post.

DHS Sec. Kristi Noem also went on Fox News after the incident. She said that “this man first into the room, started lunging toward the podium, interrupting me, and elevating his voice and was stopped; did not identify himself, and was removed from the room.”
She called his being there “political theater.”

Noem also said, “If he HAD* requested a meeting, I would’ve loved to have sat down and had a conversation with him.”
(So then it sounds like she did NOT have a meeting with him as DHS claimed. 👀 )
Also, when Noem spoke, she changed up tenses throughout— I *would* speak with him, we *sat* down, *we’d* probably disagree, *we’ll* exchange phone numbers and continue to talk...)

ABSOLUTELY IDENTIFIED HIMSELF.
He said, “I am Senator Alex Padilla. I have questions for the secretary…”
#AlexPadilla had his hands up & got onto his knees, but then was pushed to the ground forcefully by federal agents after they told him to put his hands behind his back & he said that he couldn’t because they were holding his hands.
The agent said, “There’s no recording out here,” to an aide, who replied, “That’s my boss.”

House Speaker Johnson blamed Senator Padilla, saying that there needs to be a censure for the behavior and “We can’t be having senators charging cabinet secretaries.”

So, back to what #Noem said after the incident (see post 8 of thread)—
I’m not sure people heard all of the different verb tenses she was using (first conditional, saying that she WOULD meet with him IF he asked… then mixing that up with past tense (sounding like she had met w/ him, but also like she was using a slang-like conditional contraction— “ (if) we’d had” met), & then future tense that she will exchange phone numbers, etc.).
Or maybe people hear what they want to hear (?)

My point in nitpicking her words is to point out the lies and spin. #Noem said first (in FOX News, before changing up the tenses and making it sound different), that IF Padilla HAD asked to speak with her, she WOULD HAVE met with him.

Charlie Sykes* talked about how he expects that MAGA will celebrate the body-slamming of a US senator by federal agents under the Trump administration.
Sadly, that checks since Trump himself often speaks of those on the Left and those who question his actions as enemies… even “animals” (like in his recent speech in front active US military).

Senator Padilla said that he did meet with DHS Secretary Noem “for a few minutes” after he was released from handcuffs (and after she concluded her press briefing). She did not apologize for how he was treated by federal agents.
Senator Padilla reported that he was escorted to the press briefing room by federal authorities (so they should’ve known who we was!). He was also wearing a shirt that identified him as a US senator.

@phaedral I agree it is important to avoid spreading lies. However, it is interesting to see how they are (no doubt) spinning it to all the people watching FOX News and in other right-leaning circles.

The sad thing is that they will also spin the video, so it is good to see where the spin points begin (to tell a timeline of truth).
