2024 was the warmest year on record for Europe.

This alarming trend highlights the urgent state of our climate:

🌪️Storms and flooding affected an estimated 413,000 Europeans
🌡️60% of Europe saw more days than average with at least “strong heat stress”
❄️ Scandinavia and Svalbard saw their worst ice loss ever

In a boiling planet, our climate action is ever more urgent, and vital.

@EUCommission although stunning progress has been made by many countries in the EU, slapping China’s electric cars with a stiff tariff is not helping reducing climate change.

Very off-topic, but also not : the EU is fighting three political enemies now: China, Russia, and United States. That simply one enemy too many.

@Paul_Harts @EUCommission I don't necessarily disagree, but with most new cars (electric ones included) being SUVs they are not automatically greener than the cars they are replacing.
We should be moving away from cars anyway.

@csepp exactly!
Within the boundaries of a car-centric system, BEVs are right now the best option, but the car-centric system by itself is pretty bad on its own.

@Paul_Harts @EUCommission

@csepp that’s why I have two bicycles.
Yes, even in the UAE.
@EUCommission And yet, public transport continues to get worse. Cars keep getting bigger. We keep making crap out of disposable plastic. Electrical infrastructure is not being upgrades anywhere near as fast as it should be.

@EUCommission

The simple and only answer that applies to everyone and everything is To Do Less—Cut whatever you do by at least half. This doesn't apply to inner work or consciously connecting and relating heart-to-heart.

@EUCommission
And yet, in the U.S., we're blasting dramatically in the wrong direction to deal with this.
@EUCommission It is not the heat what makes we need to get oil independent, it is geopolitics.
