Periodic reminder (to myself as much as anyone): you might feel the urge to self-censor today.

You may think of a funny joke, or snap a photo of something beautiful, or want to vent about a minor annoyance at work, or have something you made that you need to show the world.

And you might think about what’s happening in the world, and say, “Ugh, now is not the time.”

Look: post it anyway. You never know who might need the distraction and the uplift of your post. And it might never feel like the right time again.

@maxleibman
"What's happening in the world"

Is this a general reference to the state of things, or did some new bout of insanity happen today?

@maxleibman

Yes, and no.

Sometimes, I write, then realise how a person in a particular situation might misinterpret it. Sometimes, I do that too late to do anything about it. Sometimes not.

It is necessary to deal with unintended cruelty, as well.

@SJAsh_03 There is definitely room for reading the room; there are times when specific jokes or anecdotes would hurt more than help.

This is more about pushing back on the general sense one may have that one cannot post anything good on account of bad happening in the world.

@maxleibman while dancing about the living room my husband and I were talking this morning about whether the Peanuts Theme song would ever have been written if Charles Schultz hadn't drawn his cartoons and the endless importance of doing (and sharing) one's thing.

@laughingmaus @maxleibman

Sometimes such conversations are an important part of our mental healthcare.

@Susan60 So true! Recommend dancing too. By the end of the song we were both high on possibility and had really good days to show for it.
@maxleibman I would go further. All the systems in the world exist for the joy of people. It is just the right time when the world is in difficulties to post the things you mention. These small things are more important, in themselves, than the stuff that makes you think it's not the right time. To stop posting them is to give the larger things more importance than they deserve, and to make problems more powerful than they would otherwise be. To put it differently, to post all the things you mention when everything looks like it's going to hell is to post them at just the right time.
@maxleibman Thanks, Max. I needed this today.
@maxleibman you have to remember to celebrate your wins. Taking notice of something good in the world doesn't mean you're ignoring the bad. It's important to stay strong so you can take care of yourself and those around you

@maxleibman

“… it might never feel like the right time again.”

That hit me right in the feels.

@cmdln

@maxleibman what about digital tracking or whatever it's called
@maxleibman thanks for reminding me! It's the reason why I'm quite silent atm.
@maxleibman I try to boost dogs every evening & have been feeling like it may seem frivolous but people probably need pics of dogs now more than ever
@sapphireangel @maxleibman Thanks, I think that was one of those posts Some people including myself needed to hear. There are so many times I want to post about something and then press cancel for a number of reasons, including self doubt and the ones you mentioned.
