I don't want to stir up controversy, but toasting bagels is wrong.
@peribotsarah the less fresh they are, the less wrong it is. And a lot of places are just selling bagel-shaped bread, which isn’t actually a bagel, so may be toasted if you feel the need to punish yourself by eating it.
@josh0 I mean...stale bagels are and fake bagels are wrong too?
@peribotsarah @josh0 Where I live there is no such thing as a fresh bagel. We have to get supermarket bagels. 😿
@littlemiao @peribotsarah weirdly, Smith’s (a grocery chain in New Mexico) makes surprisingly decent bagels. They’re a Kroger brand, so maybe other chains might have the same ones?
@josh0 @peribotsarah There is a Kroger store near here, I will check it out and give it a chance!
@littlemiao @peribotsarah good luck! I was happily surprised the the ones at Smith’s. They’re still not nearly as good as I’d like, but they’re good enough to hold off the urgency of a trip just to buy bagels.
@peribotsarah wrong, but sometimes unavoidable. :(
@peribotsarah It's okay, we tolerate bad opinions here as long as they're not hurting others.
@pixelartdragon Oh, if you want to hurt others, go look up the people trying to ban blueberry bagels!

@peribotsarah We're Jews. Hot takes on food are part of our faith.

And I'd counter that it depends on why you're toasting them. Never with cream cheese and lox, or with schmear, but I'll sometimes toast them if I'm making a sandwich at lunchtime.

And blueberry bagels are... very situational. As are chocolate chip.

@peribotsarah There's a difference between fresh and day old bagels. Latter need toasting. Also there are those doughy bagels (often sold in UK supermarkets and referred to as American bagels ) which are only ever edible IMHO after toasting and the shiny crispy ones, sold in Jewish bakeries (in the UK) best fresh.
