I don't want to stir up controversy, but toasting bagels is wrong.
@peribotsarah There's a difference between fresh and day old bagels. Latter need toasting. Also there are those doughy bagels (often sold in UK supermarkets and referred to as American bagels ) which are only ever edible IMHO after toasting and the shiny crispy ones, sold in Jewish bakeries (in the UK) best fresh.
