Another lesson in dedicated vs generalised software.

Not everything needs to be ‘dynamic’. In fact, most things suffer when they are.

ChatGPT "Absolutely Wrecked" at Chess by Atari 2600 Console From 1977

Despite all its advances, ChatGPT still, seemingly, is less smart than an Atari simulator on beginner mode.

@SecurityWriter a related lesson I learnt in my electrical engineering days: a piece of equipment using discrete parts and appropriate semiconductors is typically one or two *orders of magnitude* more energy efficient than an equivalent design using a general purpose CPU (even a tiny microcontroller like something based on the 8502).
@SecurityWriter scripted logic is best for this sort of thing and ChatGPT is a terrible example here.
@SecurityWriter It is worth stressing any computer system cannot be smart - they are all brute force, nothing else
@SecurityWriter now some engineer at openai has the task to fix this until the weekend, using someone's python package for chess, for PEGs and duct tape
@SecurityWriter this reminds me of a DougDoug video where he used chat gpt to create an AI that was allowed to cheat at chess and basically make any move that it wanted to. His Twitch chat, which is not known for making good decisions, absolutely demolished it still.
