Consumer networking devices come in two varieties: Altar to a Dark God and Aromatherapy Machine.

@mrencyclopedia

It's true. 😅
Saw both of these at the Office Depot.

I went with the Dark God one. I don't know what that says about me...

@mrencyclopedia Can you imagine the fucking killing they'd make with a "Three Seashells" setup?
@NosirrahSec @mrencyclopedia Tell me how the three seashells work! I am desperate. I need to know XD
@NosirrahSec @mrencyclopedia I don't think it would make a killing because youngsters today don't know about the movie. Maybe it'll make a bleep on radar in year 2032 when the movie was happening, but othrr than that, most don't get the reference anymore for stuff from the 90s.
@mrencyclopedia
Either way they look great with a lit candle on top
@mrencyclopedia a.k.a. "Honey Pot™" and "Dude Wipes™"
It looks like a tachikoma
@wyatt @mrencyclopedia i feel like I'm witnessing a creation by the Wizard of Gauze
@wyatt it looks like he's goin' somewhere. where he about to fly off to
@wagesj45 real answer, openwrt was making it overheat with a load (like torrenting). The fan completely fixed the issue
@wyatt meme answer? :D
@wagesj45 it's for attaching a hot air balloon to
@wyatt @mrencyclopedia that's the robot from soielberg's "batteries not included"!
@mrencyclopedia sorry to make a mess of your ontology but this exists.
@tedmielczarek @mrencyclopedia To add to this, it's unironically one of the best budget WiFi 6E routers last I looked into it. A LOT of people were buying this for wireless VR setups.
@tedmielczarek @mrencyclopedia fits in the dark god category imo
@tedmielczarek @mrencyclopedia what do you mean this is obviously altar to the dark gods
@mrencyclopedia When I hooked mine to a 1 GB fiber optic line, it opened a portal to the underworld. I've been down that rabbit hole for a while now.
@mrencyclopedia Just saying: if you write mystical symbols in red nail polish on the dark god altar, they'll never come off
@mrencyclopedia @skinnylatte My friend calls the former “eldritch conference tables”.
@mrencyclopedia I miss the "1960s intra-office intercom to the typing pool" aesthetic.
Faux wood panelling, large rocker switches, sizeable speaker grills.
Intended to occupy a not-small portion of a desk, alongside the large blotter.
It should also have an attached custom pen.
And smell like cigars and scotch.
That's an aesthetic. I miss that it isn't a choice anymore.
I also wouldn't choose it.
I just want it to be a choice.
@mrencyclopedia I love the implications of the order the pictures were actually added in

@mrencyclopedia

I prefer the aromatherapy machine ones to the altar to dark god ones.

@mrencyclopedia

Also ...

Toilet roll and Throne of Swords

@number6 Nowadays home routers made from cheap thin plastic with some not so good performance and basic config options¹ costs >70€

1. Like a few more possibilities than shitty ISP routers on which firewalls are limited to "profiles". So if you need to add a custom rule for specific needs… depending on you you ISP either the UI is a total pain in the ass and supports only basic rules or you can't add shit at all.

@mrencyclopedia

@fraggle @mrencyclopedia this is not a transmitter of glory; no positive interactions were radiated here.

AI is an eldritch horror. it is an incomprehensibly vast being but without physical form, not truly alive or aware of anything, though it consumes human knowledge and spits out a perversion of it. those who get too close to it are driven mad, and worship it as a deity that will lead them to salvation, even though it is not even aware of them and will lead them to destruction instead

Gamedev Mastodon
@mrencyclopedia There are also weird people who go with a rack setup with 1U gateways and switches, PoE stuff... 😅

@mrencyclopedia so, I can enable mesh networking across all four floors of my building with nothing more than those 1980s salt shakers and a modern draining board.

I'm confused about only one thing: what do I do with my tomato-shaped tomato sauce dispenser?

@mrencyclopedia varieties of consumer electronics also known as Bouba and Kiki
@mrencyclopedia i've also seen the tried and true "box with ethernet ports" a few times before :P
@mrencyclopedia I wonder if any of the aromatherapy-style ones have enough empty space in the middle to put even a minuscule actual aromatherapy thing in it.
@mrencyclopedia what about these
@anselmschueler @mrencyclopedia Gonna have to go with aroma therapy machine here.
@mrencyclopedia "son, where do I put essential oils in this?"
@mrencyclopedia @i0null When they mate, this seems to be the result
