What Does It Even Mean To Be “Great” Anyway?

I normally don't like writing "Current Events" pieces (and greatly prefer focusing on what SEO grifters like to call "evergreen content"), but I feel this warrants it. Content warning: Violence, death, mentions of political extremism. What Does "Great" Mean? Imagining living under constant threats of having your house burned down for 2 years, because your neighbors hate that you and your spouse are both male.

@soatok As a passionately anti-MAGA Jesus follower, the hypocrisy of evangelical Christians as a group makes me both livid and nauseated, and I am not alone in this.

I don't pretend to understand the struggles of people who are in the LGBTQIA+ demographic, but I can try.

You don't have to think the way I do or believe in who I do for us to be friends. Kindness and laughter are universal.

I know it probably doesn't mean much, but never forget you're not alone in this.

@soatok it comes across as (rightfully) direct and heartfelt. Better than any sugarcoating done in the reporting on this.
It’s nicely concise and to the point on the message. And it’s really important to stand united now.

There's no greatness in cruelty. And it's only a matter of time when these "people" (I'd put here something FAR harsher but that'd ban me from the Internet) are next. And they will envy the fate of those they previously deemed undesirable. Because their torture will be slow, painful and seemingly neverending.

But such is the world of absolute freedom; the world they oh so much desire and "fight for". A world in which one's free to hate and be hated. A world in which their children are less than human so they can live their wasted lives. A world so free, that one step out of line earns them a free bullet to "improve freedom".

Thanks for sharing this. This was such a heartbreaking thing to read about, and it's just one of so many horrible things that seem to be happening simultaneously and continuously.

@soatok It’s an illusion to a time when things where “great” where gays where still in the closet, women didn’t have that many rights, blacks where still segregated, and they could throw any one with mental issues into a institution for the rest of their life.

It has never been about bathrooms.
It is not about DEI being bad.

It’s about trying to go back to a time that didn’t exist.
