Looks like the #liberux #mobilelinux phone finally released their indiegogo. Looks pretty expensive for people to buy into a companies first product. The good thing about rk3588 base is atleast collabora is pushing the mainline development forward so if they go bust its not dead in the water. Its still too expensive though for a community to sprout from it like the pine devices. I wish them the best but it seems to expensive for me to purchase one with the risk of it not materializing.

@Luigi311 I did a bit of digging and ...

I spread misinformation. I would like to apologize publicly for spreading this misinformation. These are real people with a real project to make a real phone.

They are not part of any fraud case, they are members of our mobile Linux community.

I have posted an image of the original post. I will not hide the fact that I made a grave mistake here and I am very sorry to the folks over at @Liberux I should know better as a representative.

@carbonatedcaffeine If all that is true then that just adds more reason to be cautious. I do know some people meet the guys behind it at fosdem so they atleast do exist and have tied themselves to the company publicly.

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 The link doesn't provide any evidence. Who are those people? Cleaners? Interns?
How were they "involved" in the fraud? Did they investigate it and help bust the culprit?

Honestly, without any evidence this revelation is a fraud itself.

Don't let yourself be swayed and rely on facts instead. And the facts are: someone is starting another Linux Mobile project.

@dcz I was able to determine that the people from this photo are real. The images seem to have a green screen behind them.

Still not sure about the hardware though, as the Rockchip SOC doesn't seem like a good fit for a phone form factor (unless they bin it like the one in the PinePhone Pro).

Treehouse Mastodon

@carbonatedcaffeine I believe you that they are real, but that doesn't get me any closer to understanding the alleged connection to the fraud case.
@carbonatedcaffeine @dcz it is indeed binned like the PPP. It’s a rk3588s. Even with it binned though just like the PPP I still think it will run into heat issues.
@Luigi311 we haven't seen the cooling solution for the device yet, so we'll wait and see.

@dcz @carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 Here's a reaction from @Liberux : https://mastodon.social/@Liberux/114624286190969734

To be honest, creating an enthusiast Linux phone crowdfunding campaign (which refunds backers if the goal isn't reached in 30 days) would be the least-yielding most elaborate scam to defraud a few poor FOSS fans ever.

Thank you so much for your response and for giving us the chance to clarify and defend ourselves from these harmful and false accusations.

We truly appreciate your willingness to listen, and we agree — posts like the one that circulated can sadly hurt the chances of a small, independent project like ours. That’s why it's so important for us to respond with transparency and honesty.

Thanks again for your support and fairness. 🙏💙

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 Thank you so much for your public apology. We sincerely appreciate your words and the integrity it takes to recognize a mistake so openly.

We believe in transparency, constructive dialogue, and building trust — not just with our backers, but with the entire community. Your gesture means a lot to us.

Let’s keep pushing together for more open and ethical hardware. 💙

Hi, I’m Pedro Echanove

Apology accepted, @carbonatedcaffeine I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself — I don’t usually use social media at all. I have no profiles except for this Mastodon account, which I only created because @BUF0 made me do it :-).

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 @Liberux @BUF0

I’m a software developer specializing in free software–based solutions. My father, Manuel de Echanove Ravello (the one in the photo behind me), was one of the pioneers of computing in Spain. He worked for IBM in the early 1960s programming the IBM 1401. He has been the role model in my life and the reason I’ve been programming computers since I was 7 years old.

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 @Liberux @BUF0

I’m sharing an ISO of my first complete operating system (based on Debian) from 2004, in case anyone enjoys tinkering with nostalgic stuff:

All the best to everyone.

@pericus @Luigi311 @Liberux @BUF0 Hi Pedro, it's nice to meet you :-)
I love the IBM computer you have in the back.

Hope we can get along.

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 @Liberux @BUF0

You can come to our office when you want. I have a very nice collection of old IBMs. And perhaps you can check we are real! :-)

@pericus @Luigi311 @Liberux @BUF0 That would be pretty cool, unfortunately I'm waterlogged here in New Zealand.

I should be coming to FOSDEM next year, so if you are interested in having a chat there that would be awesome.

I guess it wouldn't be fair if I didn't introduce myself as well.
My name is Camden, I am a student from New Zealand currently studying my bachelor degree in computer science (I'm sure that will be useful once I finish, sarcasm).

I got into computers very young at 7 where'd I'd mostly play around with old Windows XP computers and eventually discovered Linux when I set up Crouton on my Chromebook. I am also currently the community manager for the Pine64 Community (not PineStore the company), I do the social media stuff, write the community updates and interact with the community.

@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 just so you know, the last edit of this post could be not visible from some other instances for some reason. I got completely confused because of it today, especially considering @Liberux boosted it. For me it looks like they reposted the original unedited post with misinformation.
Maybe it would be better to delete it completely, I don't know.
@carbonatedcaffeine @Luigi311 @Liberux I commend you. It takes a very brave person to do this. You are way ahead of 99% of humanity.
