Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit
@Cdespinosa
The original plan for BART was to go all the way to Santa Rosa. Too bad that never happened.

@Cdespinosa This is cool — does it bug you at all how intentionally-split the Bay Area transit frameworks are. Needing a ferry ride to go from SMART to BART, for example. Or the hiccups needed to go from Stanford to San Jose to Berkeley or Oakland. The bay area’s suboptimal connection points for Amtrak.

Am told Livermore pushed their rail station to a couple miles north of downtown.

@InkomTech LWindsor’s new station is literally in the middle of old downtown. It’s been 58 years since a train stopped there.

And yes, Bay Area multimodal transfers are pathetic. It’s 10-minute walk from the train to the ferry in Larkspur, same for SF ferry terminal to BART

@Cdespinosa thx. I’ve had just 4 yrs experience (with a brother in Santa Rosa and a kid in San Jose) and the gaps remind me of how the NYC subway seems willfully unaware that NJ exists right… over… 🌊… there.

… whyyyy does SR to SJ neeed a ferry?!

@InkomTech Because there are no rail bridges across the Bay except way the hell over in Benecia, 35 miles east.
