well, I'm not sure if it's something I did, but YouTube is in full "right wing pseudo-spirituality conspiracy theory pipeline" mode for me today.

it was probably because I clicked on a video of someone restoring a Rolex pocket watch, which means I value status (I don't, I just enjoy restoration videos done by professionals at a technical level), which means I value hierarchy, which means I'm Conservative, which means I hate vaccines.

yay.

"you need to break out of your victim mindset and blame the Illuminati instead" will never not be funny to me, though, on a purely semantic level.
when I say "pseudo-spirituality" I mean literal solipsism.
@AmyZenunim You know, I have been wondering why YouTube suddenly decided to shove a lot of US police footage into my feed. But the Rolex/watch theory makes sense!

@johnkapri @AmyZenunim okay so maybe they changed or broke something. Since I started watching more YouTube a couple of months ago I got pretty awesome recommendations, encouraging me to keep watching.

Since a week or two, most of what I see is total crap. I was thinking that I must have clicked/watched some horrible stuff and messed something up...but maybe not?

@AmyZenunim I've recently been getting a non-stop algorithmic loop about how important it is to escape the modern Internet's non-stop algorithmic loops. Had to just sit down and contemplate that one.

@AmyZenunim this is why I'm incredibly careful about watching people I haven't watched before and I hate it

it's a depressingly short hop from "tech youtube" to "scambaiting youtube" to "skeptic youtube" and once you hit that third one you're gonna get recommended people I would like not to name but really hate that I was getting recommended once
