“favoriting posts does nothing” is a common thought but it’s not accurate in any sense

mastodon has trends and all interactions play into that! your admin has to approve them (and personally I have stopped caring entirely about approving them 😅) but it’s a feature

and more importantly, favorites send a nice little notification to the person who made the post! that’s what they’ve always been for! long before twitter started showing you posts other people liked, favorites were there and that’s all they did

don’t let what twitter turned favorites into make you forget what their original purpose was!! @sarae https://ecoevo.social/@sarae/116234378485815564

seeing another round of "don't favorite posts on fedi" folks it is a kind and lovely thing to favorite someone's post and anyone who tells you not to be kind and lovely has told you something about themself it's true that it doesn't particulary increase the distribution of your post but the idea that we're all here to get things distributed as far as possible is pretty weird

Straight up is abelism that auto-generated captions censor naughty words. People who need them are (often) still adults that don't need naughty words blocked for them.
@demize I'd need to dig into how it's done in practice but Feishin + Navidrome (and probably OpenSubsonic) does what you want AFAICT.

and now that I've figured out what I want I, uh

really want this, actually

this would need musicbrainz API connectivity so that it could canonicalize the artist names; technically it could do this just by parsing the fields (I believe picard tags things in a consistent order) but API connectivity would be easier and more reliable

I have refined my desire for how to organize artists in a music player app

I think what I want is:

  • a list of all artists from MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMARTISTID
  • with a list of all albums that artist appears on, when you move to the artist page
  • so long as that artist appears at least once in the library as a solo entry in MUSICBRAINZ_ALBUMARTISTID
  • with a separate section on the artist page for albums that artist appears on, but isn't listed as an album artist on

this feels like the right middle ground between "a list of all the artists, spamming you with one-offs from all the artists on your doujin albums" and "you get the album artist, exactly as written in the tag, so if you want an album that's by Your Favorite Artist ft. Someone You Don't Remember it's listed as its own artist and you have to find it"

@demize nixos-rebuild --switch if it was good

"bloody linux", the distro that recompiles the kernel and kexec's the new one every time a commit is pushed

...yeah, that's about how it's going lately, isn't it
