@SnowshadowII

Mark Carney is at least as conservative as Brian Mulroney, if not more so.

๐Ÿ’ฏ I've been saying this since before the elections... Die-hard Liberals didn't want to hear anything of it. ๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿ™‰๐Ÿ™Š

@mike_bloxam @bobjonkman @SnowshadowII Most knew. The thing is, Carney is further left of Poilievre than Justin was of Mulroney. Everything's relative.

You could have said that about Chrรฉtien/Martin too. They were the ones who balanced the budget with service cuts and tax increase, where Mulroney increased government spending and bloated the deficit.

The federal Liberal party is by and large non-ideological, certainly not in the way the CPC or NDP are. They stick largely to the centre and lean to the right or left depending on feedback from the electorate.

There is a widespread feeling that Trudeau ignored "pocketbook" issues. Carney's popularity was in no small measure due to his experience as a banker, and the thought that he can deal with the economy.

There are some who see the Liberals as "NDP lite" and that's generally not the case. They will steal specific policies from the NDP, but more for political expediency than any real sense of conviction.
