Everyone seems to be using the Obsidian app, and I want to learn how to navigate it and understand its potential. Since Pocket is shutting down, I'm eager to explore new apps that might be beneficial for my daily activities. If anyone has tips or resources for getting started with Obsidian, I’d love to hear them! Let's discover together how we can make the most out of this tool.

@aldi80s Sure! I think the best way to find out is to open the app, try out some things, then watch a tutorial (or read an article) on these things, then try out a little more, until you made Obsidian completely your own tool.
@aldi80s A few things to watch out for in Obsidian:
- What do people use it for (scientific research, fiction writing, keeping laundry lists, ...)?
- How do they structure their notes (e.g. action-oriented, research-oriented, info-dump, world-building writers desk, ...)
- What tools are they using (plugins for creative writing, creating charts, analyzing data, integrating external sources, ...)
- What tricks do they use (and how on earth did they just do it)?
@aldi80s You can follow the #obsidian tag on Mastodon to get some info from time to time or ask questions.
On the big Discord it can be hard to follow real discussions, as there are simply too many people in it already. It can be useful to get a question answered though, or to learn about new releases, plugins and methods.
@aldi80s A few of my favourite tools in #Obsidian are:
- The Journal plugin for making a new note every day. This can help greatly getting into the flow of entering things.
- Note Refactor plugin: To split out headings to their own notes, or to merge notes together
- #DataView plugin to quickly list notes with certain attributes (e.g. all movies above 90 min length that I watched for more than 50%). Some of this is now covered by the new "bases" feature.
@aldi80s More plugins:
- Charts plugin to render some graphs from DataView or CSV files
- Auto Note Mover plugin, to automatically move notes with a certain tag into the right folder
- Kanban plugin, to manage task notes
- some dictionary or thesaurus for better writing
- and some integration of an external bookmark service, alternatively using Obsidian Web Clipper from the browser directly
