Ladies and gentlemen, the weekend
@GossiTheDog could have held a fascist speech, good for him
@GossiTheDog why is it that I wouldn't be surprised if Republican politicians in the U.S. were to start doing that? Oh right, because they are even stupider than the politicians in Australia xD

@Natsura @GossiTheDog

I seem to recall a rule that only water or milk can be drunk on the Senate floor, but i might be mixing something up

@RnDanger @GossiTheDog since when have the republicans ever shown that they care about the rules?
@Natsura @GossiTheDog
Ok so i looked this up before making more uninformed statements:
Apparently a guy was filibustering in the sixties and asked the chair if he could drink milk. The chair replied "there's nothing in the rules to deny that" and everyone just assumed the contrapositive.
Apparently most senators still think this is a rule.
@RnDanger @Natsura @GossiTheDog so the rule is actually that there are no rules on what you can drink?
@purple
I'm sure there are limits (beer from a shoe might be a stretch) but there's nothing that says milk only, as i had thought
@GossiTheDog Australian politics are very strange.
@GossiTheDog Well, that’s broken my Aussieometer.
@GossiTheDog
I hear that's standard table manners in Oz

@GossiTheDog

Up there with "Way to tonguefuck that boot."

@GossiTheDog

other countries - different customs
🤷🤷‍♂️🤷‍♀️

@GossiTheDog stuff like this is why i love this country

@GossiTheDog

What a time to be alive. Thank you British Broadcasting Corporation for this product of cultural significance.

@GossiTheDog

The Western Australian Parliament seems more civilised than the Canberra one, renowned for brawls.

A Shoey - cool, albeit absolutely disgusting unless the beer had a very high alcohol content.

WHY TF can't other parliamentary systems take a leaf out of their books?
@GossiTheDog First time I've seen an MP do 'a shoey', not the first time I've seen someone dona shoey' though.
@GossiTheDog Old Gregg has really let themselves go

@GossiTheDog

Thats the way it goes.

@GossiTheDog "Disparaging the Boot is a bootable offence!"
@GossiTheDog And my first thought was "which US rep will respond with 'hold my shoe'"?
@GossiTheDog once again, Australia isn't real.
@GossiTheDog In Texas, this tradition is enshrined in boot-shaped glass beer flagons.
@skry @GossiTheDog we have glass boots in the Netherlands too, you're meant to drain the whole glass in one go without spilling, or you pay for the next round
@GossiTheDog Drinking beer from a shoe, not too weird for an Aussie but in parliament? That's different but Aussies are built different that way.
Moment Australian politician signs off career with a 'shoey'

The MP ended his time in parliament by drinking beer out of his shoe during his farewell speech.

@GossiTheDog I see someone hasn’t been to “Knights” school. 🍻⚔️ 🤣 <https://youtube.com/watch?v=zAScjP1o_VI>
@GossiTheDog @jpm bloody West Aussies (they are different over there, as I know having escaped in ‘99

@GossiTheDog

One night, after a long day of drinking, my friends and I were drinking the cheapest champagne from our shoes. But it was ok, because we were very drunk . . .

@GossiTheDog
I miss Daniel Riciardo. That‘s what this makes me think of.
@GossiTheDog Democracy manifest!
@GossiTheDog All meetings are concluded like that in Australia. "Alright, I've had enough of this rubbish, I'm gonna shoe off!", other acceptable responses when leaving a meeting are, "Laters, shoe you tomorrow!", "Shoes your own adventure", "Well this was a shoe-gone conclusion" and "Joggers up!"
@GossiTheDog From The Mighty Boosh, Old Gregg :D
@GossiTheDog A Hash House Harrier, no doubt.
@GossiTheDog Just another day that ends in "y" in Australia... or ends in "oy". 😄
@GossiTheDog
There must be a better way to sneak beer into Parliament 🤷
@GossiTheDog huh, I thought the proper parliamentary procedure was that a shoey is only to be drunk when your bill is defeated by a two-thirds margin
