#browsers #Firefox #EU
The EU should start a Foundation that is funded to fork and then continually develop Firefox for the good of its people and all humanity.

They have the wealth, the ability and everything needed. Just do this.

@dbat For the Cyber Resilience Act, the EU estimated that cyber security was worth billions to the EU (I can't find the original estimate any more, but I think it was well beyond single-digit billions), and would therefore fund fewer than 10 people to improve it union-wide.
@jbqueru ten peeps is nothing to sniff at!
@jbqueru @dbat sounds about right. they need a couple billions for the 3 directors in Luxembourg managing those 10 people! You need experienced people justifying why they keep buying Microsoft after all.
@dbat Is firefox really going that badly? I mean a truly open browser that can compete against firefox and chromium has been needed for a while but I'm not very up to date on what's going on with firefox.
@mothwaves yeah. sadly the money mad mericans are mucking it up. it's getting more and more ai stuff glued on as well as several recent privacy threats.
@dbat why bother with Firefox? Just massively fund @servo instead!
@fabrice @servo firefox is at least an entire working browser.

@dbat

Anyway I'd rather stay with #duckduckgo

@dbat there's a key thing missing: the will to do it
@dbat Pale Moon's lead dev is now based in Sweden, so...
or ressurect KHTML for Konqueror.
or switch to ELinks.

@kelpacre Or some combo of Firefox, servo and khtml.

A liberated, fully working, secure, standards ready browser is what humanity needs. I feel it's right there next to the operating system itself in importance.
