Avoiding becoming the lone dependency peg with load-bearing anime

Xe Iaso's personal website.

@cadey "Why do you have an anime character in the challenge screen by default?"

Somebody is really insecure about their masculinity. Imagine you open a website and an _anime girl_ is on the webpage for a brief second, and somebody sees it on your screen and then it looks like you hide that from others and then awkward silence follows and you go home thinking if now those people will judge you for life, because as a real man you don't watch anime of course, especially not cute ones!

@cadey Neat post.

What motivated you to name the commercial variant BotStopper? IMHO, Anubis is a snappier name by a mile, which I would intuit would help with branding/marketing. BotStopper sounds very generic.

@smlavine I wanted to make it as generic as possible and also have a different repo on GitHub:
@cadey Fair enough. I might have different tastes in branding than the sort of organizations that purchase Microsoft 365 Copilot Teams
@smlavine Me too, but that's why I have fun where I can
@cadey you could say the jackal girl weighs the soul of anubis' users as much as the bots the software's intended to stop

@cadey

considering how short a time Anubis has been live, I already find the anime character reassuring – takes me longer to realize that a rebranded Anubis is not just another Cloudflare blockage

@cadey please don't VC anubis, this is how the evil happens
@cadey "One of best side effects of the character being there is that it's functioned as a bit of a viral marketing campaign for the project." <-- Very much this. I noticed the Anubis mascot when browsing the GCC git repo and thought it was great that people are actually using it. (Best wishes for well-funded success with it.)
@bcallah Thanks! I should really buy a BSDCan ticket because it's in Ottawa and I am too!

@cadey "that people only [see] for about"

missing word

Neat article, it's a shame that some people can't handle art in a professional setting.

@cadey You should ask @soatok how people feel about furry artwork on his furry blog about cryptography.
@cadey With anime becoming more and more mainstream, catgirls are being deprecated as a form of shopping cart test. Consider upgrading to a furry instead.
@avak5 Anubis is a jackal.
