if you have read up or are knowledgeable about the possible correlation between #T1D and #GenderDysphoria or the higher-than-typical prevalence of T1Ds identifying as #transgender, or the possible link between #A1C and #GAHT, or perhaps experience with #insulin resistance related to #GAHT / #HRT, would you like to chat? i have so so many questions.

i once joked to my therapist that as a #T1D i shouldn't have been surprised to realize i was #transgender. #insulin is a hormone, after all, so i've been having #HRT since age 3. but still a surprise to encounter this today: "Five to Ten Times Higher Prevalence of Gender Dysphoria in Kids With T1D" https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/949041 only 2 studies totaling >2000 participants, so not nothing. and... this feels right to me. like, of course. my endocrine system is atypical and it makes me weird.

@peachfiend It's not something I had ever heard of before. The original article https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/10.1089/trgh.2020.0027 is phrased somewhat the other way around (high prevalence of T1D in an urban gender program). Statistically, it has slightly different implications, but it reflects a link to be studied nonetheless. The size of the group (and subgroups) is not super high, so it requires some caution interpreting the results.
@cortig while this is the internet and i must "do my own research," i am fortunately not tempted to draw my own conclusions about it. it's just fascinating to observe as a trans person w/ T1D. throughout my life i've mostly heard from doctors and T1D orgs that we don't really know what causes T1D. seems HIGHLY unlikely that being trans causes T1D, and vice versa. but unexpected connections can eventually lead to unexpected knowledge, and that's just pretty nifty. SCIENCE!
@peachfiend Of course!
A number of factors can lead to susceptibility to develop T1D. And there are no genetic factors that have been linked to the likelihood to being Trans. So establishing a clear association seems like a very far reach. But it doesn't mean it's not an interesting correlation :-) You could imagine that some common genetic and environmental factors could somewhat increase your odds for both.
