I installed #Kodi because the article I read talked about the content you can access with add-ons. It implied (or I stupidly assumed) that these were premium add-ons that you subscribe to to access streaming channels.

Now that I've installed it and tried to find this content, I've come to what I guess should have been obvious from the beginning:

You people only use Kodi to pirate movies and sports, don't you?
🙄

@Photorat Not me, I just use it to play my own film collection. Only add on I run is the Up Next that will continuously play a series, and another that scrapes artwork for the index.

@GoatsLive
Well that's good to hear. That type of thing is what I thought it was for.

But search the internet and YouTube and it seems like most of the articles and videos are aimed at pirates. They're also all pushing VPNs. "It's not safe to use Kodi without a VPN!"

@Photorat Perfectly safe if you're not using it to pirate stuff. I've had mine up and running for 10 years. Mine runs on a Pi4 connected to 10tb of hard drives via usb.
@GoatsLive
I know. All of the VPN ads are half the reason I came to conclude that its main purpose is piracy.
@Photorat
Nope, but you could say much the same about any media player or steaming service with a cracked user account.
