British “backpacking” videos are such a comfort watch. No fire bans, no wildlife. Just a random middle-aged dude trundling off into some wealthy family’s estate to cook a leftover banger on a Trangia stove. Chill AF.

These pleasant dudes are using the absolute pinnacle of cutting edge lightweight technology so that they can carry a folding table, chair, pillows, beer into the wilderness.

“It’s brutal out here”

<pans a camera to show a parking lot ½ mile away>

“There’s me car”

@Kubi That sounds delightful to watch!

@Kubi God I love “Kent Survival”

Even the name. SURVIVAL. One time it rained a lot so he slept in the car instead.

@Kubi @siracusa I watch a Korean dude do something similar. He pulls up in a Range River with his dog spends an hour setting up camp next to car park right off the road generally and cooks and chills with his dog for a couple of days before heading home. Very ASMR except for the loud slurping as he eats. I guess it’s basically an ad for camping gear but he gets millions of views. RYUCAMP on YouTube
@Chuck_ORourke That's great, I'm going to watch those videos. I've seen a similar channel from a Japanese guy that was basically just an advertisement for Snow Peak gear. It was fantastic.
@Kubi When it comes to transportable outdoor furniture, the British have it *down*. We used to watch in amazement as families would trundle up to Lammas Land with one folding wagon, and 10 minutes later they had a folding pavilion with a dining table and an outdoor kitchen set up and ready to go. I don't know why it's not more common; most of it is just from Decathlon.

@Kubi growing up in the UK it occurred to me one day these "lost in the wilderness" stories just don't apply to me.

I realised you could randomly drop me at any point in the UK and I could be home within the day.

There just isn't anywhere in the UK wild or isolated enough to properly actually get lost.

The closest would be someone remote in Scotland, but even then. Walk up the nearest hill/mountain, look for a road. Follow the road until you find a) car or b) town.
Then bus/train back home.

@Kubi Lol. This post has made my day. Looks out of window at Kent considering 10 min drive to ‘wilderness’. 52 degrees F and a bit cloudy. No chance. Brutal.
