It's not about the names, and they don't give a damn if we call them out as hypocrites.
It's about being able to punch down on trans people and any minority, really, so being okay with Leo's new name is just an extra slap in the face to trans people, which is just icing on the cake for them.

They do know what a pronoun is (well, probably. In anycase, they use them just fine) and they have never had a problem with respecting Mrs/Ms or preferred names / nicknames.
Can we give up this line of pursuit?

@georgetakei Never take conservatives at face value. The reasons they give to objecting to things is never the reason they actually object. For example, the forced gestation movement has absolutely nothing to do with "protecting innocent lives". Likewise, their objection to trans people changing their names has nothing to do with the difficulties of remembering that someone has a new name.
@georgetakei A society in which women are treated as second-class humans *requires* a hard and fast delineation of genders. The "logic" of why women should not be treated as fully human breaks down in the face of the reality that gender exists on a spectrum. Chrisofascists object to the existence of transgender people because the fact that gender is not completely biologically predetermined undermines their control.
