I often share "on this day" photos on Instagram and thought I'd share one from this day in 2018 here on Mastodon as well because I had a feeling you were all lacking in some culture right about now. This is Maman outside the Guggenheim, Bilbao. We don't like spiders but we love sculptures like this and we like architecture and modern art too which is why we were there visiting the museum.

@neonbubble That's incredible!

@sharongascoigne

There are a few of them around the world but this is the only one we've seen. It's supposed to represent protection, with the mother looking after her babies.

@neonbubble @sharongascoigne there’s part is one outside the National Gallery in Ottawa too
@neonbubble @sharongascoigne I typed that badly. “There’s also one”
@neonbubble @sharongascoigne i remember the one in front of the Tate in London- spectacular!
@neonbubble I recognized the spider, only cause I was there just two weeks ago :D
Yes, those spiders are very beautiful. We also had one in the pond of the Kunstmuseum in The Hague for a few months
