Fesshole 🧻I no longer respond when my wife asks me to repeat myself. Speaking with an echo was driving me mad, and she always manages to work out what I've said if she pauses a few seconds instead of instantly giving me huh/what/pardon. I don't think she's noticed this experiment.

My wife does this too. She nearly always asks "what" or says "pardon" and then interrupts me when I repeat it because she did hear me but just needed a second or two to process it.
I also learned to pause so she can process.
OP saying it's an experiment sounds bleak, but I'm in the same place. 🤷🏻♀️
@MattPCart @fesshole It's indeed a well-known phenomenon. But the terms in which you describe it are strikingly different from fesser's wording. 🤷
