Just spotted a "Fuck Antifa" sticker on a streetlight. Wanted to put an antifa sticker over it, but there was a young family behind me on the pavement so I wanted to let them pass first.

Just as they passed me and the pole, the dad stopped and pulled off the sticker himself. He taught his daughter how to safely remove nazi stickers.

I laughed and told them that I was just waiting for them to pass to put my own on top. Small funny moment of solidarity.

@lianna
There were some nasty ones in Worcester (England) when I was there recently. Shifted them - they had the badge of "my" football team on them and I felt ashamed. I later realised there have been cases of razor blades being placed under them. Got away with it but take care. Scumbags will scumbag.
@Fasgadh I don't know what the situation really is in other countries but in my experience of having been part of various political subcultures for about a decade, the razor blade thing is largely a myth. Never once encountered it.
@lianna I saw it once, in a UK city sometime around when Brexit happened, iirc. I don't go out as much these days tho. @Fasgadh
@lianna
And unfortunately you really have to be careful when removing Nazi stickers. I've already taught our eldest that too.

@stehgeiger @lianna
Exactly. Avoid using your fingers directly.

Window scrapers work well and they can be pretty cheap. Goo gone is also useful to help with stubborn stickers.

And of course, like the original post mentioned, you can just slap your own sticker on top of it.

@jargoggles @stehgeiger By all means, the razor blade thing is as much of a myth as the 'drugs in halloween candy' thing. Nobody does that anymore, at least not since the 1990s. I've never encountered a single instance of that in the past decade.
@lianna
I honestly only know about it because someone posted a photo of it here not too long ago... Maybe it was an isolated incident, but better safe than sorry
@jargoggles
@lianna I'm seeing more antifa stickers and wheatpastes in my town. Somebody's out there.

@lianna @tinker Huh. And here I have this on the back of our car.

I was out in the countryside of Maryland a few weeks ago, having stopped for lunch in a drive-thru parking lot. Had a fellow walk up to my car while I was inside and ask me what the sticker was about.

I told him about Elon and the Republican convention. I told him that all of those veterans who fought in the World War II deserve more respect than to allow Nazis to take root here. He mumbled something and walked away.

Not too much of a stretch to guess who he voted for.

There are more decent people than fascists.

Thank you for sharing.

@lianna Excellent parenting, and well done you, od course! ✊️
@lianna how do you safely remove stickers?
@reynir @lianna Dynamite?

@kentenmakto @reynir @lianna

Nazi-stickers tend to have razor blades behind them, making it unsafe to use naked fingers.

(Consider usingkeys, coins, etc. as a tool.)

@kentenmakto @reynir @lianna use something to scrape the corner and dont put your bare fingers on it if possible until you see its safe. sometimes the bastards but razor blades under the stickers.

@reynir The idea is that you check for people around so that the nazis who put up the sticker, or sympathising bystanders, aren't going to cause trouble for you.
@lianna This is a great reminder that there are lots of us out there who want to change the narrative. When we make ourselves visible, we may be surprised at how much support we already have.

Good work. Good community building exercise.

I have begun carrying cute rainbow stickers and flags in case I come across stickers I can’t easily remove.

@lianna

@lianna I'd have boosted if there was a cw for politics or antifascism

love the post

@see @lianna

I can understand cw:ing things that bring people down, but surely community opposing discrimination, and teaching the next generation is -- or should be --both uplifting and relatively apolitical?

Removing racist stickers is about keeping things out of Overton window.

If you're that opposed to antifacism that you don't want even hear about sticker removal, you should imho have the keywords on the filter list.

Edit: and it's not like op makes it difficult: there's a lot of tags!

@lianna There is hope. Thank you for sharing this great moment.

@lianna

I now carry a whole bunch of different stickers, in different sizes for just this kind of thing. Way to go, Dad, though. And you!

@czarbucks @lianna
Someone posted about a Nazi group putting up a sign near us, asking what to do. Someone else told them how to remove it, a third person said they were going to take it down, then posted a photo of the sign when they got there, which had been painted over, presumably by a fourth person who’d seen it.

It takes a community! ❀️

@pomegranate_stew @lianna

That's just wonderful! I follow someone here or on Bluesky who said if anyone saw one of these in Asheville and was worried about taking it down to just let him know, and he'd paint over it.

So nice to see this.

@lianna Fucking with Fascists: bringing Americans together.
@grumble209 ... Americans? Who said anything about America?

@lianna I was just hoping... 😭

Can't we all unite over fucking with Facists?

@lianna Something similar happened to me a while ago. I was waiting for an older couple to pass to peel off a sticker of III.-Weg in a really quiet residential area. They where eyeing me skeptically and when the man turned around a little later and saw me peeling off the sticker, he said something like"Oh good! Thank you doing this" and we were both happy to have had the same thoughts about the sticker.
@lianna One could argue that shows there are more good folks out there than the fascists. Just based on the odds of that single event. A bit of encouragement

@lianna

Reminds me of when I would walk my dog during the pandemic carrying a paint scraper. Those "White Rose" stickers spreading FUD were popping up all over my neighbourhood and i wanted them gone.

@lianna

small funny moments of solidarity are what we need most!

@lianna some time ago I walked the city just to remove all the anti-masking stickers. Or paste an antifa sticker on top.
@gunstick @lianna nice :) remember peeling one off that was in a playground I took my daughter to.
@lianna@webgarden.click I had something similar happening to me. I spotted a nazi sticker on a post on my way to work and as I was approaching I see a guy heading directly to the post and remove the sticker.. he took a look around to see if anyone would react and I gave him a thumbs-up! His look was priceless - recognition between allies!! Fuck nazis!

@lianna how do you safely remove them ?

I off racist stickers but always worth it might be dodgy, just try and go from a corner.
