i sometimes wonder how much the dynamic of social media would change if you removed follower, like, and share count… if those just wouldn’t be tracked. the only thing visible would be comments.
would it be different? would this change the dynamic in popularity, clout, and parasocial relationships?

i sometimes joke that social media is gamification of relationships for surveillance capitalism.
i wonder how it would be if it was “ungamified”. does the numbers game make it addicting & keep us coming back? can *just* making connections with people, without that urgency for competition, be enough?
