What if things you wanted came true in the worst possible way?
I was 12 years old in 1974, the year Watergate unfolded on America's television screens. I've been interested in politics ever since. Watergate and Vietnam are a frame that still affects my vision of politics today.

The utter immorality of the war in Vietnam and the clear violations of law and ethics in Nixon's election rigging seemed to be crimes worthy of strict, harsh punishment and yet... nothing changed. I watched and protested and voted and marched and 50 years passed and a convicted felon got elected.

I hate it. But I always wanted the CIA to get reduced. I always wanted US influence in the world to wane. Suddenly, the EU is moving away from its long dependance on American military. I always wanted Wall Street to mean less in the world. Now, the US markets are becoming untenable for the world's money. I 'm getting so many things I wanted and I hate it.

I hate it because it is going to come at the cost of people who are innocent being chewed up in the fascist machine. I hate it because children are suffering. I hate it because I have friends and family in fear, through no fault of their own, for no reason other than rank bigotry. I hate that people I thought were friends turned out to be perfectly fine with fascism.

If there is a silver lining, I guess it's that there is no going back to "normal" at this point. The media might convince Americans that it can, even that it is.
But the world knows now that they have to find a different path. That's something.

Speaking of the media, I absolutely blame the American media for the state of affairs. Newspapers and television networks both have done this to us. Over 30% of the population believes absolutely laughable nonsense because they believe American media. The small portion of the media that tries hard and does a good job never had a chance.
