“It’s not about banning a book. It’s about a parent being able to decide what they want for their own child,” John Dubbler, a 67-year-old from St. Mary’s County in the southern part of the state, told HuffPost.

Yeah, it is about banning a book. Also, #SCOTUS, will you now defend the rights of #Jewish, #Muslim, and #atheist children who refuse to attend school because of exposure to Christianity?

Supreme Court Signals Support For Religious Parents Against LGBTQ+ Books

In the last several years, the conservative-leaning court has often ruled in favor of those making “religious freedom” claims.

HuffPost
@CindyWeinstein How is this never a discussion of children's rights to be exposed to diversity but only about parents rights to restrict their children's experience.

@konosocio

I know. I was wondering why the article didn't include any children's voices. My guess is they are just fine, or would be, with the diversity of books if the hateful and/or ignorant parents didn't butt in.

@konosocio @CindyWeinstein

Children don't have rights, just parents. It's only the woke UN (and the vast majority of its members) that think children should have rights

@konosocio @CindyWeinstein because in the ‘parent’s rights’ world view it’s actually property rights, typically based on a Bronze Age mythology that is perfectly comfortable with chattel slavery of women, children and conquered foreigners.

@konosocio @CindyWeinstein

i know a handful of home schoolers who didn't let anything from the real world into their homes

the kids grow up, go to college or get jobs, find out their parents lied to them and brought them up in hate and cruelty

and leave their religions and never speak to their parents again

and the parents are flummoxed

*head desk*

one yelled on a phone call with his mother, "THERE IS NO GAY AGENDA" and hung up

lol

@CindyWeinstein never expected abusive parents being the ones who would get more legal support while the abused get less… seems a bit backward to me.

My parents forced me to stay in the closet and it resulted in my running away and developing decades worth of self-hate (and a lot of therapy $$). Abusing kids because of their identities doesn’t change their identities, it does however affect their ability to survive.

@Addmen

Yes, we're living in the upside down world.

I am so sorry to hear what you went through.

@CindyWeinstein

I recall protesting when my children's school started to force them to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Do parents not have rights to prevent enforced right-wing political correctness?

@CindyWeinstein Well stated (by Cindy Weinstein)!
