Are any profs using #preprints to teach grad students how to do #peer_review? If so, are any profs encouraging students to submit their reviews to open-peer-review journals? These Qs were prompted by this good article on a slightly different topic. https://t.co/dc4VtMMUr5

Update. The Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacology section of the Society of Critical Care Medicine launched a "junior reviewer program" in 2011. The program trains #ECRs to do #PeerReview and operates on #preprints from willing authors. After feedback from the junior reviewers, 64% of reviewed manuscripts were accepted for publication. 94% of the authors said "the service met or exceeded their expectations and 84% would recommend the service to a colleague."

"Each [Fellow] will be assigned 2 different journals for 1-year terms. Fellows will be paired with mentors from the journals’ editorial boards & will review at least 4…submissions [#preprints] each year. [These reviews will] supplement and not replace the usual reviews performed by other reviewers."

Update. "Peer review is a cornerstone of academic publishing, but essentially no formal training exists at the [undergraduate] or graduate medical education levels to prepare trainees for participation in the process as authors or reviewers. This clinical research primer presents an introductory set of guidelines and pearls to empower trainee participation in the peer-review process as both authors and reviewers."
