This is a bidirectional #bicycle path that goes underneath one arm of a roundabout to avoid conflict between peds, cyclists and cars. Why not a bridge, you may ask. A downwards slope creates momentum that you can use to go up at the other end.

@Hansonthebike Wow, that's nice... In my part of the world they'd make you cross all that on a crosswalk 😬
@ai6yr in Canada too. And faded paint at that.
@Hansonthebike it's probably even more subtle, the road is likely slightly raised, the heads of the cyclists passing through the tunnel do not go below the local horizon, which helps prevent the tunnel feeling dark and dangerous
@helle @Hansonthebike
Even very tall Dutch cyclists are lower than busses/trucks on the road, so the head height /height down&up for an underpass is lower than an overpass

@Hansonthebike

I'm pretty sure I saw a video a while back that mentioned that roundabout. Or else one very like it

@Nezchan it is possible but there are many. If you want to see where it is: https://maps.app.goo.gl/PziSP9x2cVUYU2Vh6

@Hansonthebike

Too bad you can't do street view on the actual bike path. That'd be fun.

@Nezchan you can, in a way by using Mapillary, where volunteers add sequential images on line:

@Hansonthebike I’ve used several similar paths around Eindhoven—utility and fun combined!
@Hansonthebike You also get away with a smaller vertical deviation. A bridge would have to clear whatever the local truck height standard is (4,4 m here), a tunnel can be half of that (and end up really claustrophobic).
