β€œWere you homeschooled by a pigeon?” #tarrifs
@chartier need to add this insult to the bank for the future.
@chartier thanks for reminding me of this gem of a Wikipedia article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_over_Avian_Carriers

OMG, this made my day!

@chartier Well, I got a new good insult out of this mess, anyway.
@chartier Don't let the pigeon tariff your allies!

"STOOOOOOOOPIDMANNNNNN!!!"
I haven't bought a Samsung phone since the SideKick 4G (which was probably the last pocket HipTop device I didn't completely despise) and it was, admittedly a lot more economical than $1000-$1200, but inflation aside, has that guy noticed how expensive a Samsung phone was in the 1980s? One of my high school friends was the son of the guy helped Samsung do the RF in their first cell phone the Samsung SCH-1000 in 1988.

I can't seem to find the MSRP right now, but to get an idea of the market back then, a Motorola's 9800X in 1989 cost Β£1765.

So, (does some math) Β£1,765 in 1989 is worth Β£5,611.79 in 2025 or $7,244.44 in 2025 USD.

So if Drumpf wants to Make America Great Britain Again and presumably also wants to make computers expensive again (I remember when I could only use computers in others' labs because they cost more than my parents' cars, or mortgage on their house) maybe Samsung's "price hikes" are on track?

Would you pay $7,244.44 for a Samsung phone? I wouldn't, but I hate phones.

I think laptops are an absolute bargain right now relative to their specs, but I guess it wasn't meant to last?

Even Apple, which many marveled at for lowering prices on their MacBook Air M4 refresh recently, despite tariffs, because they're made in Vietnam supposedly, well I just saw that Trump announced 46% tariffs for Vietnam, effective April 9; so those "bargain" prices presumably won't last?

I'm sure the 5D chess players know better than I though. I went to public schools and graduated a state University.

No pigeon professors at least! I'll count my blessings.
