@nixCraft Germany. I miss decent internet so much

@VileLasagna @nixCraft here in podunk Woodstock, Ontario, a town of about 50k people, I can get 3Gbps symmetrical fibre.

We’re moving back to Waterloo, which has two world-class universities, frequently calls itself Silicon Valley North, and about 600k people, and the best I can get is the 1G/50Mbps cable I had five years ago.

Glad I didn’t upgrade here, it would be a huge letdown.

@Taffer I mean, back when I was in backwater sheep country Aotearoa Zealand, one day a guy just showed up and wired fiber straight into my living room. I didn't even end up using because the Cable connection I had gave me already like 900Mbps down was and way cheaper

Here in "First world Europa" I'm back to just shitty DSL and I'm supposed to be thankful for it

@Taffer And, same thing, I'm in Hamburg. This is like a traditional hub of cutting edge science and whatnot. I work on top of a frikkin particle accelerator and live within walking distance from it so you'd THINK I was in an area where I could expect some bloody infrastructure
@VileLasagna you can always tell where the big, old telecoms companies are coasting
@Taffer Neoliberal privatisation did not, in fact, improve ANY services anywhere! WHO WOULD'VE GUESSED?!?!?!
