@CStamp @GottaLaff Yes, as I said, they should have known that Signal is not authorized for classified government communications. That’s was a mistake they should have known not to make.

But accidentally adding a contact to a chat group and no one noticing? Signal is practically DESIGNED for that (and classified systems very much aren’t).

@CStamp @GottaLaff In particular, Signal lacks specialized features found in classified systems, including security labels on data, user identification that includes names and clearances, and automatic enforcement of policies. It would be almost impossible to make a mistake like this in the government-approved systems they should have been using.
@CStamp @GottaLaff And this isn’t a failing of Signal. Adding those features would make it almost impossible to use for normal, unclassified communications by regular people.

I'm still trying to figure out who he thought he was adding. Some bigwig named Jeffrey.

@DoNotPunchDown @mattblaze @CStamp @GottaLaff the Signal UI for creating a group has you click a checkbox near each contact you want in the group, from all your contacts. So it could just be a misclick, rather than confusing him with someone similarly named

@DoNotPunchDown @mattblaze @CStamp @GottaLaff Okay, I’ll fess up.

It was me.

@DoNotPunchDown @mattblaze @CStamp @GottaLaff Okay… I cannot tell a lie.

I was not cc’d on a discussion of classified information.

I’m sure they’ll get around to it eventually, though, at the rate they’re going.

@mattblaze @CStamp @GottaLaff maybe Elon has cut down on this very old UI and expensive secure communication systems and Signal is the new for free channel 🤡
He probably saved on about a dozens of personnel here.
