How I thought I'd use a standing desk: Randomly sit and stand through out the day to improve my health.

How I actually use a standing desk: I sit all day and only raise the desk when I need to cable manage something.

@paul
That’s how I use mine. Now I know I'm doing it correctly.
@jbridleman @paul
you are not alone. currently cablemanaging under mine. i can confirm: it still works.
@paul I tried a standing desk for a year or so. Concluded it was terrible.

@paul that's ok. Studies have confirmed that the other way is no better than a normal desk.

The best way to use a standing desk is to once an hour get up from it and walk around the block.

@paul this will make you feel better about that: https://academic.oup.com/ije/article/53/6/dyae136/7822310

@paul thank you for prompting me to raise my standing desk for the first time in a few weeks
@paul Same! Until I bought a drafting chair and now I have the desk raised all day and occasionally sit on my perch.
@paul That's exactly how I use mine - still worth every penny I spent on it.
@paul That’s why I purchased a permanent standing desk. No seating option.
@paul I wrote a little apple watch app to get me to stand up more during the day. It did work to motivate me to stand more but then Xcode could no longer find my watch and the build has expired. Could try and put it on TestFlight (haven't ever tried that with a pure watch app with no iOS companion app though)
@todd pretty sure there's a BT dongle for this desk, if I was actually into using it I'd just set it to automatically lift/raise on a timed basis. Harder to ignore then a watch app specially when half the time my watch is out of battery.
@todd @paul If you decide to put it on TestFlight I’d love an invite to see whether this would help me switch more when in office (where I have such a desk).
@paul How I use a standing desk: work ≈ 1 hour, get tired, then spend the rest of day on the sofa reading.

@paul the way I make myself stand more:

Meetings must be done standing. No sitting during meetings.

@paul I need to figure out how to reprogram the firmware so I can only “earn” sitting time after some minimum period of standing.

@paul I really wish I would have went this route when I moved 8 or so years ago and began working from home… I really didn't think it through.

Probably my next purchase though for the office; I would need to find one to support the weight of all these monitors though. 🤣
