@marcoarment I’m a few @atpfm episodes behind so maybe you’ve already addressed this, but I’m really struggling with your AI takes. You celebrate the sophisticated algorithms you don’t have to write yourself but also don’t seem to respect or consider the humans who put in the years of work to research and develop them in the first place. LLMs, practically by definition, cannot come up with novel solutions to problems: a human had to do it first while OpenAI/Anthropic/etc reaps the benefits.

I’ve had mixed experience with AI. Sometimes my mind is blown by how impressive it is. Sometimes my mind is blown by how useLiss it is.

I have been using it more and more for my work.

What bums me out, I think, is that I don’t want to proofread for a living. I want to _create_ for a living. [1/2]

Let’s talk about AI art.

Update 8/8/2025 – I wrote this the day before a certain post by a popular developer services company. I’ve seen some comments this is a rebuttal – it wasn’t meant to be! But…

Robots won't be taking peoples' jobs. Corporate owners will be taking peoples' jobs and giving them to robots.

Can we get the wording right on this?

Just got out of my last chemo session. I am all done!

Absent in the long obituaries for Pope Francis in both the New York Times and the Washington Post were mentions of his deep concern for the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In Francis’s last public message on Easter Sunday, just hours before he died, he had called for a ceasefire in Gaza, and condemned the “deplorable humanitarian situation” there.
The obits also failed to note that Pope Francis had personally telephoned the Holy Family Church in Gaza just about every evening since Israel invaded the territory in October 2023

Mainstream obituaries are erasing Pope Francis’s deep concern for Palestine

Pope Francis telephoned a church in Gaza nearly every night since October 2023. But the New York Times didn’t include that fact in its obituary.
