I have watched the ~30 minute Metallica immersive concert.

I have thoughts, and I have quibbles. Will discuss on the next ATP.

Apple, please. I beg you. More of this. šŸ¤˜šŸ»

Bah gawd.

@caseyliss can’t wait to hear how much you loved Whiplash
@caseyliss Tell me your company is run by 70 year olds without telling me your company is run by 70 year olds.
@caseyliss so agree. Not a big fan of the band, but the experience was stellar. I did find a few quibbles that I am sure I will bring up on @gamesatwork_biz this week, but totally agree.. ā€œMay I have some more, please?ā€
@caseyliss I presume this is a multi cam and not a fixed POV like Marco talked about? I would LOVE a fixed POV front row concert vid. Surely also quicker and easier to make and distribute? Win win!

@andrewwade It's multicam, yes, but even when you're stationary, you can still move your head around to change your perspective.

I don't think fixed is the right answer for a concert. I get what you/Marco are saying, but it'd be worse than you'd think.

@caseyliss @andrewwade I haven’t seen this on Vision but, as someone who saw them multiple times on this tour, there’s no way to capture this concert with a single camera.
@mfaber @caseyliss fair. I’m just super keen to get a camera where I was for a concert iykwim That kinda proximity and view would be amazing. Maybe multi cam is better, but I’m keen on getting lots of concerts from a single viewpoint.
@andrewwade 100% agree with you that most concerts would be better from a single angle.
@mfaber for me it’s both this and the ā€œeasier so more of them quickerā€ rather than 3 Metallica songs every 3 years kr whatever.
@caseyliss Quibble one: Could you it with a band that doesn’t suck?

@lexfri Metallica is great*!

* except Lars

@caseyliss @lexfri I don't care for Metallica but I DO hate Lars.

I'm pretty sure we're all of the Napster generation. Is this the source of our common hate of Lars?

@caseyliss I made a podcast with them a few years back. I think the NDA is up.

What a fucking miserable experience.

@lexfri @caseyliss well this needs to be detailed! Members only section of the rebound?
@lexfri @caseyliss is that the Amazon one? Just downloaded and heard who the executive producer was.
@caseyliss @lexfri never really forgiven them for how they treated Jason.
@lexfri @caseyliss They Might Be Giants in immersive video would finally settle any question as to their heights once and for all

@lexfri @caseyliss #TaylorSwift

That sell hundreds more #VisionPro unit - hundreds!

@caseyliss Metallica are my favourite band and have seen them live a number of times.

When I had seen this announced hearing your thoughts about it was top of my mind.

Now I just need to find a freind here in Scotland that will let me borrow theirs.

@caseyliss I guess you didn’t SharePlay with @marcoarment ? Going to a concert alone is sad Casey šŸ˜‚
@jamesoloughlin @marcoarment hah! Does that work with immersive shit? We should do that!
@caseyliss @marcoarment YES šŸ¤˜šŸ» I did it with my friend last night. You can’t see each other’s Personas in Full immersive mode (you can in window mode if both are viewing in window mode but that’s not the way :)

@jamesoloughlin @marcoarment No snark, what does doing it over SharePlay bring to the table then? Other than joint play/pause?

I guess you can speak with each other over the music?

@caseyliss @marcoarment that’s it really. I guess you two hang out with each other enough during the week. šŸ˜‚ ā¤ļø

I have a lot of ideas of how Apple can improve on the shared experience of events but today that’s it.

@caseyliss don’t own a AVP, but seems like begging a company OTHER than Apple to provide this type of content might be more realistic ask.

@caseyliss I have a lot of thoughts about this. Metallica is my number one favorite band. I went to the Seattle shows right before the Mexico shows at the very end of the tour.

This is somewhat better than being there, because of how close you can be and the things you can see, but obviously feeling the actual music isn't on par with being there.

@caseyliss I loved the part in One where James gets his face really close to the fan's face and then he walks away and the camera stays there and you see the fan put his head down like he just had one of the most amazing moments of his life and he fist pumps the person next to him.

During the intro to Enter Sandman, Kirk drops a pick and you see him pull a new one from the mic stand. The fans there notice the pick fell. A bit later, you see them reaching over the teleprompter trying to find it.

@caseyliss During Enter Sandman Lars is looking to the side and screaming and I thought he was trying to make a face into the immersive camera, but I thought maybe he didn't know where the center of it was. Then I realized he was actually looking between it and the drums so that he could make eye contact with the fans in the Snake Pit.

I'd love the whole concert, but you could see in areas how much room setting a stationary camera took up.

Overall, it was edited very well and was great!

@tomalvarez I was confused by the Lars thing too! Now I know!
@caseyliss was the point of view from the center of the pit, with the stage all around?
@ildave Generally, no. It cut between several views, /mostly/ in a good way
@caseyliss ok thanks! I’d love to take a look at this content, but no Vision Pros here in Italy unfortunately.
@ildave Just track down Federico
@caseyliss that’s an idea!

@ildave 🤪

FWIW, there's a trailer you can find that does a decent job of showing the experience

@caseyliss Fixed position cameras would not have worked for such a dynamic and large concert platform such as the one in this Metallica concert. I am also about to experience immersion from different parts of the concert, including ones that I would not be able to experience even if I was there. I am very glad that the teams at Apple keep trying new things with this medium.

@caseyliss ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!

I saw them live a lifetime ago, this needed half as many cuts, but not none. I underestimated how intense this could be. I love that the editors had the wisdom to linger with that one fan (you know the one.)

I can’t wait for this to be an experience everyone can afford.

@jrj agree with you on all counts. 🤘
