@Strandjunker There at times when I speak because I feel that not speaking is implying acceptance and complicity. I need to voice my objection or disagreement so that I can live with myself.
I've been asked why I continue a discussion when I'm clearly not going to change their mind. Because in a public discourse, I know others are reading. I'm presenting my ideas to them, in case they're open to them. I've learned a lot that way watching others' discussions.
That is a really important statement.
If you see something that you would normally speak up about, but then convince yourself it would be better for you to stay quiet, then you have indeed been changed... and not in a good way.
If the opposing side can get you to self-censor -- out of fear or hopelessness -- then they have won.
Speak up! Speak out! Resist!
