I just dug up a USB drive from 2007. It's ext3 fike systems, and there's just one empty file on it, called 'do-not-forget.txt.' No clue what it means, or why I even made it.
@nixCraft It doesn't have keys to a huge Bitcoin wallet encoded somewhere?
@Sempf i wish πŸ˜‚
@nixCraft @Sempf Great news: Bitcoin did not exist yet in 2007.

@nixCraft Weren't technologists hiding encrypted file systems in the high-address unallocated areas of ext3, around that time? You might see if there's a hidden filesystem in addition to the ext3.

But, it'll probably need a pass(word/phrase/key) from around that time, too.

@nixCraft My money is on hidden encrypted file system. You have failed past you.

At least it predates bitcoin so it's probably not a lost wallet.

@baibold @nixCraft maybe it was a reminder to invest in bitcoin

@nixCraft

Oh, come on, Scully; it's right there in front of you.

😎

@nixCraft You forgot 😭
@nixCraft the electronic version of "the knot in the handkerchief"?
@nixCraft have you checked the hidden file name .instructions.txt. Its content should be \r, which explains things!
@nixCraft I think I've had this happen too, and I could swear that the text files I created had contents. Could it be a long term storage corruption issue associated with ext3?
