Elephants are born weighing 250 lbs. They are the biggest babies on earth except for motorists when they see a bike lane

A common framing of burnout is to emphasize individual responsibility in recovery and in developing resilience. Although individuals have to invest in their own recovery and resilience, focusing exclusively on individual responsibility is a classic from American Calvinism, or the "Protestant work ethic".

The Protestant work ethic is essentially the idea that success is achieved through hard work — and that anyone who doesn't have good fortune, wealth, health, or happiness is personally responsible for their shortcomings and failures.

(These ideas came from White people during the time of slavery, so there's a really fucking special place in hell for the origins of this viewpoint.)

Regardless of the origins, White Americans have been deeply poisoned by the insidious idea that anyone not successful simply isn't working hard enough.

This weekend highlighted the many ways that Trump and MAGA are, well, deplorable. While sifting through the news highlights (lowlights?), I landed on eight different descriptors, with two SMDH examples each. The South Park thing.

There are many takes on it. This is mine. Formulated as a series of bullet points because they don't deserve better. All of these things can be true at the same time:

Someone in an online group I follow just posted this in a thread:

"I asked AI, and it said" -- words followed, and some were incorrect.

This person was demonstrating total trust in a system that is totally untrustworthy. The hype is working, and the result is going to be terrible.

Warning: fediverse scam alert

You've promised yourself that you'll sit down to just read a few toots and, two hours later, you've read 500+ toots, made six new friends, and installed Linux or BSD on your laptop.

What a scam.

@dbrand666 @owenblacker @pluralistic @mariafarrell @openrightsgroup

@pluralistic someone outside Brazil should write about Trump's plan to enshittify brazilian instant payment system Pix created by the Central Bank of Brazil, because it's great and free and the US Big Tech can't compete with it.

GrapheneOS is currently under a state sponsored attack attempting to misrepresent it as being for criminals, which we covered a bit at https://grapheneos.social/@GrapheneOS/114784469162979608. These poorly researched, biased and inaccurate news stories have led to more harassment towards our community and team.

European authoritarians and their enablers in the media are misrepresenting GrapheneOS and even Pixel phones as if they're something for criminals. GrapheneOS is opposed to the mass surveillance police state these people want to impose on everyone. https://www.xatakandroid.com/sociedad/cada-vez-que-vemos-google-pixel-pensamos-que-puede-ser-narcotraficante-movil-perfecto-para-crimen-sencilla-razon

My first submission for #FediBlock: today my account was the target of abusive messages that included: violent language, threats, incitement to self-harm, videos showing a woman being harmed, nazi imagery, racist slurs and misogynistic attacks.

I’m including the list of instances (not the actual horrid messages) so that you could block them too, if you wish to:

detroitriotcity .com
loli .church
poa .st (the WORST offender)
shitpost .cloud
tsundere .love

(I put a space between the domain name and the extension, on purpose)

Thank you for everyone who provided advice about how to deal with this šŸ™
