Perfect!

In Wyoming, the legislature has decided, that you cannot require others to address you by your preferred pronouns — thinking that this will only hurt trans people, Trump wants to persecute.

So citizen Britt Boril calls in to a committee meeting and deliberately misgenders the male chairman as madam, which he takes offence to — because our rule about allowing disrespect was not meant to be used against us!

(And no, you should never misgenders others, but damn… this move was brilliant)

@randahl By happy coincidence the hate mongers are also idiots

@CaptMorgan

Me thinks... It's not really a coincidence 😉

@randahl

@randahl To be fair, it's not misgendering, they gave an explixit consent to be called by any pronouns.

@randahl

This is just the most wonderful thing I've seen in days 😆

The constituent's absolute confidence in knowing their rights contrasts brilliantly with the transphobic committee's sudden panic at their own incompetence 👏

I know misgendering is generally wrong, but if someone is literally making it illegal to demand preferred pronouns it seems totally legitimate to start testing whether they can live with the rules they are trying to impose on others.

@randahl
Is it my imagination, or are the people flanking chairperson French trying hard not to burst out laughing?

@randahl

Our legislature likes to make sure we know they're neither our best nor our brightest.

Proof: They just passed a ban on "gun-free zones" here in Wyoming. Yes, that's right - you can wander into a school, a town hall meeting or the governor's mansion armed and be breaking no laws.

I know, right?

Here in Wyoming, we like to make our stupidity dangerous for others.

Gordon Slams Legislators As He Lets Bill Banning Gun-Free Zones Go Into Law

Wyoming Gov Mark Gordon on Thursday let a bill banning gun-free zones go into law without his signature. In announcing his decision, he said the bill…

@mmiasma @randahl It's like they're trying to be idiotic and regressive.

@randahl "I prefer to be called 'Chairman French', that's my preferred pronoun!🥺"

Your preference doesn't matter anymore, Chairface Bench - you literally just nuked your right to defend it!🖕😇

@randahl misgendering has always been a method of harassing people. Men were insulted by being called ladies. Women entering the workforce mister just to harass them. If they think that it's will only affect transgender people it just means they ain't thinking

@randahl

Why should you never misgender others?

If someone has given support to misgendering, they have no reason to expect not to be misgendered.

Just as the intolerant cannot expect to be tolerated.

@randahl One of my preferred pronouns is "you" and I require you to use it if appropriate, but I guess not in Wyoming
@randahl This feels selfish to post, but just in case anyone seeing this video is so inclined, I work for this outfit that is trying to win Wyoming legislative seats with candidates that aren’t bigots. https://secure.actblue.com/donate/wyodems

@randahl I have listened at least a dozen times. i wish I could make it a ring tone. That Chairman is either disingenuous or obtuse...or both.
@randahl that was beautiful and too brief and yet I have to think that the hateful people who need to understand what just happened will blame it on DEI? or on some equally stupid reason? It feels that wins are losses here no matter the outcome because the audience is what it is.
@randahl 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
@randahl While entertaining, is there anything positive about this? There should be civil penalties for harassment, but I wonder about whether making it criminal is going too far.

@toadofsky
You can sue (civilly) over almost anything. As long as you can name damages. (IANAL)

Holding someone criminally liable for using the wrong pronoun seems absurd to me, even when done intentionally.

But intentionally misgendendering or dead-naming trans people still makes you an asshole.
@randahl

@randahl absolute hero. Brilliant

@randahl Classic. To help some of Wyoming's citizens out, one could use the Mandarin pronoun "tā", which means "he", "she", or "it. However, in the written language, the characters are 他,她,and 它 respectively (with all pronounced the same). Of course, with MAGA types, you can use whichever character you like - they are mostly English only.

Oh. I forgot. the Emperor Donald (as opposed to the Emperor Norton) decreed that English is our official language, so no help from China on this one!

@randahl why shouldn’t we misgender transphobes like this. This was a brilliant interaction. Even you say that.
@randahl I think it's actually good to misgender/ rename people who refuse to call other people how they want to be called. "You're not a bold truth-teller. You're an asshole and a hypocrite, and this is your dose of forced empathy, Ma'am." (It's usually cishet dudes who are obsessed and easily triggered about their own masculinity.)
@randahl That was clever indeed!

@randahl This was such a lift to my spirit!

I have a new hero!

@randahl "which he takes offence to" - you mean _she_ takes offence?
@randahl Tim French ia probably not on Mastodon. Maybe Truth Social? But he's got an e-mail as a publicly elected official.....: [email protected]

@randahl
On the one hand, I love this. On the other, it comes very close to falling into the trap of "ahah, these people have used the law as a weapon inexpertly, I will trap them with the consequences of their own actions", when in reality they are using the law merely as a tool of social signaling and do not care about the structure. The rot was already present with Karl Rove and his little speech about how empires create their own realities in 2004.

Somehow, the American center-left has never really come to understand this, because it is so fundamentally at odds with the world they thought they lived in, which is part and parcel with them consistently losing ground since Goldwater.

@randahl
This is just fantastic. I applaude this woman's dedication and witt. ❤️☺️
@randahl fine example of, just because its legal, its not a nice thing to do. Maybe somebody learned their lesson there.
@randahl very good usage of the rule to invert itself

@randahl

Brilliant! Serves madam right

@randahl
I’m totally ok with misgendering anyone who thinks it’s ok to misgender a trans person
@randahl If someone is a biological male, then use their given birth name. same with biological females. If that offends you, oh well not my problem and don't care.
@joshknnd1982 @randahl we can use whatever name/pronouns we want actually and I choose to call people whatever they want to be called. Sorry if that offends you but it's really not my problem
@randahl but if the person refuses to tell you their original birthname, you just have to use whatever name that they say they are called.
@randahl This was awesome! Well played!

@randahl @wiebepaul makes me think: I bet addressing TFG as "they" would be a real irritant. It's all about HIM, so who is this "they"?

😂🤗😈

@randahl
Damn, but that is BRILLIANT. Gonna share that widely.
