15 episodes in: I don’t hate it (at least it’s not a total drag like Zeta) but even Hanna-Barbera would’ve said this one needed a bit longer in the oven. Absolutely everything feels thrown together at the last minute. It’s a total mess.

Tomino also seems to have been pretty horny while writing it, hence we have characters like Chara Soon, whose primary trait is that she has an erotic episode every time she uses a mobile suit.

We can, er, thank (?) Bandai for the goofy tone ZZ sets at the beginning. They felt Zeta was too grim and driving kids away from the franchise. When the sequel was approved, it came with a new mantra:

A light Gundam, an enjoyable Gundam, a Gundam for everyone
