[in the faculty meeting] listen, this new technology is here to stay, and it's useless to fight against it. if we want to prepare our students for the jobs of the future, we *must* teach them how to (responsibly and ethically) purchase and consume up to five Taco BellⓇ Naked Chicken Chalupas™ each day
@aparrish Every single time I hear the sentiment "like it or not, ______ is here to stay", I like to take a moment to reflect on the overwhelming majority of "things we were told would be permanent" that now, *shockingly*, no longer exist.😮🫢🤗🙄
@GoodNewsGreyShoes like it or not, "like it or not, _____ is here to stay" is here to stay :(
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish Ooooh yeah... I wantes 3D TV for about 15 minutes... till I realized how much it sucks for people with glasses

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish

Corollary number 72 to Betteridges Law.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes
The burning question: has anyone said that about RSS or IRC?
@aparrish
@GoodNewsGreyShoes Wait, Google+ was meant to stay? Now I'm even more angry that it's gone! It was such a comfortable bubble of nerds 😅
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish "Does the 3d effect work when you're lying down on the couch after a couple of beers?"
"No"
"This technology will fail"

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish

With just a little work I found a book review claiming (then Macromedia) "Flash® is here to stay and, from what I am hearing, it gets even easier to use with each product update."

Also found what appears to be an AI content farm telling me "All in all, Macromedia Flash 8 is *one of the best tools* for designers." (With *bold* and with a big green check mark next to "Security Status" and below the "Download" button.)

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish The only thing that is assured, is people telling you the things that are assured.
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @eWalthert @aparrish Haha! Quick and cheap headlines are here to stay and these are the 17 takeaway points
@letterror
...and you wont believe number 12...

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @mia @aparrish Like it or not, capitalism is here to stay.

(Have I jinxed it? I really hope I jinxed it.)

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish

Manufacturing consent. For the oligarchy, not for the wellbeing of the general public. :/

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish ha! 3d tvs! totally forgot they were even a thing lmao. what a failed technology :p
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish
Though I'm a bit sad 3D TV was abandoned so quickly. Sure, many of them were really bad, with ghosting either because of too long afterglow or not holding your head upright enough for the polarization pattern (and sometimes even badly mounted pol. sheets) and clumsy, proprietary glasses (esp. for shutter). But would this really still be an issue with more modern technology?
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish I truly hope that customer-facing AI chatbots are here to stay🤞
@boreq @GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish
The last words of the Marketing Department of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation before they ended up against the wall when the revolution came

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish This is the same form of corpropaganda that starts lines with "In the future, we will..."

Which always means, "In the future, I want you to buy my ..."

@GoodNewsGreyShoes
I was just served “will sooner than later be ubiquitous” and it has the exact same vibe.
@aparrish
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish If you have to announce that it's here to stay, no it's not 🤣

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish Most of tech journalism isn't. And hasn't been for years.

(I'm old enough to remember when ZDNet's PC Magazine did its annual printer review issue and the page count magically doubled to make room for all the printer ads they'd sold and there was absolutely no influence on editorial content at all. Nosiree.)

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish OMG, the alt texts on these images are the gift that keeps on giving!
👏🏻
🤣
🧑🏻‍🍳💋
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish Btw, I wonder who's now taking care of my property in Second Life?

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish

There's always -ALWAYS- an option.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish Like it or not, democracy and international law are here to stay :________)

@GoodNewsGreyShoes

Impermanence is the default. I feel _really_ comfortable asserting this.

@aparrish

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish Impermanence, it's here to stay. 🤔
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish
"Everything was forever...until it was no more"
Is so true and a message of hope
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish All those examples articles sounds like pushing capitalist behavior on people on failed products.

@Exaltia @aparrish Bingo!👌✨

If a marketing entity can convince consumers to just accept whatever new product they're shilling as "normal", it's FAR easier to hedge those consumers into spending money "that you'll probably end up spending anyways, somewhere down the line!🤗"

"Act fast! These LOW prices will SURELY rise as everyone else jumps on this bandwagon that definitely exists (Trust me! Like it or not!)!!😱💸🔥" 🙄🤮

@GoodNewsGreyShoes
Oh after the 3D TV wave went away, we bought a box full of chinese 3D glasses for cheap-ass on ali express and took them to a Metal festival. We were a big group of people, everybody put one on and then we went in front of the stage.

And when someone asked why we have them on, we replied "Because I want to see the band in 3D!"

I can tell you it's not that easy to pull that off with a straight face...
@aparrish @nflux

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish

The old Persian saying.

"This too, shall pass (away)."

Nothing is permanent, us or things good or bad.

@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish like it or not, all toasters toasting toast is here to stay
@GoodNewsGreyShoes @aparrish I semi-recently logged into Twitter to make my account private (don't wanna delete because then someone else could do damage with the handle), and it was truly disturbing to see the shitload of NFT grifters that were all still going like the bubble hadn't burst years ago...
