TOMORROW, on Presidents' Day, "Not My President" protests in every US state. Look online to find yours. I'll be there!

(Not enough people know about these protests, so please boost/repost freely. Thx.)

@RobertDaleParker

I need to "login" for information.

So, no.

Stop appealing to emotion, then requiring personal information, if yer legit.

If not—busted!

@_chris_real

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're referring to. I haven't seen any info sites that require logins. If you see some of that require logins, then you can find other sites.

@RobertDaleParker

If I found a site requiring a login (and I DID) that's on you. I clicked your site.

Also, if you're "not sure", then you need to defer to me, who is. Cuz if you "haven't seen", then your authority is suspect.

And since you keep using evasive maga tactics ("I don''t know about", etc) I'll continue to advise people to NOT trust this post.

Like youtube, some people will promise ANYTHING to get our personal information. Don't fall for it.

@_chris_real

You must be referring to some post that is not mine. I do not have whatever site you're looking at or any other site that requires a login. Maybe the site you're complaining about its bad, but it's not mine.

@RobertDaleParker

You've given me NOTHING besides your ignorance of any forces who may be coopting your second-hand efforts.

Ignorance in the pursuance of activism is no excuse.

So my warning to suspect this ignorant, incompetent booster still stands. A lot of people jump on a bandwagon, when it seems like a sure thing.

Don't take this—
"I dunno, but it seems like a good thing!!"
opportunist at his word.

There's a lot he doesn't know about this event, but that doesn't keep him from promoting it.

Wait for the one that's meaningful . . .

@_chris_real

I don't know what set you off, unless you think you're responding to some post other than mine. I just said there are protests and I'm going to one. You are about to be the first person on Mastodon I have ever blocked. Regardless, I wish you well. Bye.

@RobertDaleParker @_chris_real
Followed you, unfollowed him.
Thank you for sharing information.
Yes, the block button is necessary on Mastodon, don't be shy about it.
@RobertDaleParker Mental support from #EU. We know what will happen if a dictator like this isn't stopped in time.
@RobertDaleParker You need some hashtags!

@jmag

Ideally, yes. I didn't think of any good hashtags, so I went organically. Word is spreading.

@RobertDaleParker to those who worry about low turnout or wonder what the point is: the point is for you to do what's right, to find new allies, to build community, to be seen and show resistance is possible. There could be 10 people there and still be useful.

@RobertDaleParker What’s the goal of this protests?
To obstruct infrastructure until a demand is met?
To connect likeminded people for other work, e.g. signing people up for union membership?
To generate publicity toward some specific outcome?

I worry that people are just going out, yelling with signs, and feeling like they’ve just done something to move the needle.

@rcbo

Yes, there are always risks that protests make people feel like they are accomplishing things, when they're not. But not protesting would be worse. Protests offer the possibility of of encouraging officials to support the constitution and give people and their leaders a sense of mass opposition to the illegal and unethical acts of the new admin. If we wait for the perfect way to uphold justice before we do the best we can, then soon it will be too late.

@RobertDaleParker That’s fair. “Perfect is the enemy of the good” etc. I hope they turn out really impactful.

@RobertDaleParker Wikipedia has an article about the 2017 event that was also organized against Trump: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Not_My_Presidents_Day

But isn't there an actual website for these protests? That would make mobilizing a lot more effective.

Here’s the Protest Finder on Reddit. There’s a search bar at the top you can use to find your location to see what is going on where you live.

@Tengrain

Thanks, that's good.

Here's the most useful site I've come across for finding protests: https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/

Indivisible National · Indivisible on Mobilize

We’re a grassroots movement of thousands of local Indivisible groups with a mission to elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.

Not My President's Day Rally · Mobilize

Join pro-democracy groups from Northeast Ohio including Lorain County Rising, Cuyahoga Democratic Women's caucus, MTV NEO, Indivisible NEO, and Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus to show your opposition to the massive dumpster fire in DC. Bring a sign/poster/noisemaker or wear patriotic clothing to Market Square at 12:00 pm across from the West Side Market. We will be waving signs and making noise to show unity against fascism and rally passersby. We will have limited supplies for posters but please bring your own if you have them. Sign up for poster ideas.

@RobertDaleParker Lots of organizing in my community—but it’s by text, email, and personal connections.

I’ve heard from some folks who feel cut off from that organizing work, but then again, we haven’t had to do it in awhile, since we’ve relied on social media so much.

Time to update phone numbers of friends!
