You cannot redesign the person. You get the users you get—with their existing habits, their limited attention, their varying levels of motivation, their phones buzzing with notifications from seven other apps.

Your job is to understand those people deeply, then craft an environment that makes the behavior you want the natural, easy, obvious thing to do.

The Formula That Changed How I Think About Design

A few years ago, I stumbled across a formula from Kurt Lewin, a psychologist working in the 1930s and 40s: B = f(P, E) Behavior is a function of the Person and the Environment. Lewin was explaining…

You can't beat the US military, itself.

We literally have caches of munitions and equipment in ice caves and various other places throughout the world. - A ride to the hospital costs $5,000 and is not covered by taxes/govt. College isnt covered. We have minimal pensions or worker support. Et cetera.

All the public money that could go to social needs goes to violence.

And we're good at it.

You have to go after leadership (not a threat from me or a call to violence). The think tanks, the political apparatus, the corporations that profit from war efforts, the billionaire oligarchs.

The "vote them out" stage is in one year and we have no idea if we'll even have a means to democratically transfer power.

You are in it now. There is no waiting. Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, North Korea, Oligarch Russia - if you've ever asked yourself what you would do in those times and places... you are doing it right now.

If you have means and power, sort out ways to counter the current regime's leadership and initiatives.

If you don't have that power and are just a "normal
person with a family and job", then actively join and build Community and Mutual Aid in your neighborhood. You need to feed each other. Shelter each other. Care for each other's kids. Actively take care of each other. This isn't kumbaya woo-woo feel-good shit. This is removing the threat they have over our heads.

No one wants to and many can't fight back because we are all wage slaves who cant afford not to work for capitalist corporations that fund the war effort.

So build apparatus that lets us get out from under the capitalist boot. Build it. Now. Right at your doorstep. Go... GO!

🏅 For anyone who donates at $500, $1000, or $2000 or more, I will be shipping you a unique small-batch burnt-wooden token as a tiered trophy for winning the game of #SaveVigilante. (Not affiliated with the bar, just of my own design & manufacture.) Just make sure your name is visible when you donate.

Tally ho!!

If @kagihq made a dedicated maps app, I’d happily replace both #AppleMaps and #GoogleMaps, at least for search/discovery.

Add simple, reliable turn-by-turn directions, saved places, and privacy-forward iOS Calendar events sync? I’d happily pay a monthly subscription.

Tired of Google’s surveillance, ads, and crowded interface. Tired of Apple’s incomplete search results and laggy performance (and upcoming ads). (#TransitApp you can do no wrong, but sadly need car directions in Texas.)

Man, #AppleMaps had consistently gotten better and was my main nav app for years. Now #iOS26 has literally made it unusable on a 15 Pro (intermittently fails to load anything), laggy/jittery, and simply saving a place to a list is like a 6-step process.

I loved having semi-private, ad-free maps. But this is forcing me back to #Google Maps.

Anyone else?

(I know #OpenStreetMap exists, don’t pretend it has nearly the same amount of business info as either Apple/Google.)

Perhaps lost in all the attention Jimmy Kimmel has received...

1200 people detained at Alligator Auschwitz are now missing.

The concept of a hero has always been alien to me. In comics, they are portrayed as our saviours from evil. This feeds into real life, with the common fixation on autocrats, cult leaders, sports stars and action movie characters. Nothing in reality has ever supported the idea that one person can do all the things necessary to save us from anything but people fall for it all the time. I'd like to see more stories showing us how we can collectively be our own heroes.

You’d be surprised how new your current phone might feel with a new screen, screen protector, case, or even wallpaper. 🤓✨

It’s disappointing that Ring has chosen this moment, when police and the government are infringing civil liberties left and right, to revive its tech’s most invasive feature: helping police get videos captured by home security cameras.
