We are right in the middle of a global information war. This *is* the third world war. It is fought with money, threats and massive disinformation.

In the US, the war is lost. If Germany falls among the amount of disinformation being spread by Putin and Trump (which for now are one team like Hitler and Stalin, until they're not), Europe falls.

Europe needs to wake up. Not Democratic regimes attacked by Putin/Trump—the US meddling in Europe's elections with Russia is "the enemy within."

It was unfathomable, but the idea behind "Make America Great again" has changed from internal politics to the same old fantasies of global domination. It's so insane that from a western perspective, even turning the head in the direction of that thought seems nuts. But this is what we are facing with conquering Canada, The Gulf of Mexico, Greenland, Gaza and giving the Ukraine to Russia. It is full on modern warefare. Governments and citizens need to understand the severity of Vance's rhetoric.

They're not floating the zone with shit so they can dismantle their own country. To distract and balance the coming economic catastrophe they will have to find a way to squeeze others to make up for the destruction. We are a couple of weeks in and it is looking very dire. We cannot ignore just how ruthless, greedy, dishonest, brutal, violent, megalomaniac and insane these people are with everyone. They are the very very worst, and they are not going to stop at ruining their own country.

"A 21st century information warefare." For once, Fox News explains quite clearly what is going on:

"We are waging a 21st century Information warefare (...) They're holding tiny press conferences (...) tiny little rallies (...) What you see on the right: (...) Someone says something on social media, Musk retweets it, Rogan podcasts it, FoxNews broadcasts it."

*Global* information warefare is what this is.

@reichenstein i still have hope. I just voted earlier today by mail against the far right desinformation, most if not all of my family and friends will do so as well. Anti-fascist demonstrations still get orders of magnitude more attendance than rightwing hate demos. We need to find solutions as a society to the online propaganda etc. but the war isn't lost yet. And Mastodon is very much fighting on the side of democracy. The people will prevail.

I've see the "This is the 3rd world war" line many times over the years, but this is the first time I had a shock of recognition.

It is world-wide, and governments ARE falling, and Ukraine may physically fall because of it.

My god. My grandfather fought in the first; he sent my father off to fight in the second.

THEY DID THAT SO THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE TO.

And here I am, trying to convince Canadians that this is real and we really have to invert our strategies to fight it.
