Planing boards that are less than 6 mm (¼ inch) thick makes the Veritas planing stops sad…
So here's a short reminder that a planing stop is just a small block of wood screwed to the end of your workbench. This one can even be adjusted, or recessed, if needed.

These thin boards ⬆️ became the dividers of Box № 11, a little tray for all the various turning chisels that were flying around the shop. Another easy, functional box made from softwood scraps. The lid simply rests on the frame; held in place by two thin slats.

Yes, the bottom and top panels are glued cross-grain. Because it's easy, and I want to know if they really fail over time 😛

Finished with one coat of shellac, then paste wax. Sooo smoooth…

#50boxes #woodworking #HandToolWoodworking

Yeeees, I'm procrastinating on five other #50boxes designs that have all been in different half-finished states for several months now… All of them are at a point where I would need to try a new technique. Which could fail. And then I would be out of my comfort zone. Oh no.

I will dedicate the next few weeks to finishing those designs first, instead of starting new ones! I swear!!!!

@daniel_bohrer Post a list of those in-progress boxes and I'll hold you to that

Nice joinery btw., not easy to do in soft wood.

@PalmAndNeedle the pressure to perform… 😰 🙀

yes, softwood means sharpening the chisels very well.

(Not pictured: The angles of the frame are all off by a few degrees, because it was past bedtime when I glued it up. So the lid only fits one way.)

@daniel_bohrer

Nice work and good use of scrap.

@Barebower yep, and the scrap bin is still full to the brim… 😅
